From a trained commercial pilot point of view, its a pity there is no way of doing this course part-time without the flying aspect (which we already have)

The points are calculated based on the demand for the course by CAO applicants and as it's a new course, you wont find any information on points until August. At a rough guess, I'd say you're looking at at least 450 points but it could be significantly higher.

I don't know how to say this without sounding rude but you really do need to ask your career guidance teacher how the CAO system works. If your school doesn't have one, check out this thread in the Leaving Cert forum or the CAO website.

Like An Citeog said, they're not set by the college at all - they're based on the numbers and grades of the people who apply in your year. Even if it wasn't a new course, last years points have no bearing at all. It could go up or down based on the people who apply, overall results, the number of places, etc.

To get into DCU, you'll need at least:
    - A C3 in two Higher Level subjects and
    - a D3 in four Ordinary or Higher Level subjects including Mathematics AND English or Irish

And to get into the course, you'll need at least:
    - Ordinary C3 or Honors D3 in Mathematics

Therefore the minimum number of points you'll need is 140 but if a lot of people apply or a lot of people who apply get lots of points, the points will be set higher than that. If you'd like to do it, apply for it. If you don't get it, you'll get something else further down on your list. It can't hurt to apply.

That's absolutely amazing, definitely a first for any university in Ireland!

    Papa sunnyjims ever-sagely advice
: check your eyesight before commencing this course. No point spending 3 years studying to be a pilot only to find out you're short/longsighted, colourblind, have had lasik done etc. and thus barred from being a pilot!
