iPhone on O2 UK

Last year I bought a SE C902 from Phones 4 U in Belfast on O2 PAYG. The sales assistant told me that although the phone was branded O2, once I purchased an O2 sim card and £20 of call credit, I could use the phone with my Meteor PAYG sim card. I got the phone there and then and we've had a great relationship since then. Bless her kind heart.

Recently though I have been considering an iPhone, so have been wondering can I buy the iPhone on O2 UK and use my Meteor sim card in it back home ?

(I know I could swap to O2 PAYG here for the same price but I quite like Meteor and I don't want to go unlocking the iPhone then having to avoid updates etc whilst waiting for the phone to be unlocked again.)

The iPhone is a different beast to other phones.

In short, no, you cannot buy an iPhone from the UK and use it with Irish operators. You would have to unlock/jailbreak it.

If you could do that, don't you think everyone on this forum would have done it? :)

Was kind of half-thinking that but it wouldn't be the first time I've missed the boat on these things !

Is there much hardship involved in unlocking a new 3G S ? Is there many people here using the iPhone on Meteor ?

Have a read of the sticky. I'm a bit behind on the latest, but I don't believe it is too tricky.

As for using the iPhone on Meteor, I used the 2G iPhone on Meteor for over a year and a half without problem.
