Redundancy - reckonable service

    My co is currently offering vol redundancy. I have been with the company for 14 years. However I left for 1 year in 2001/2002 to go travelling. This was not leave of absence because the company don't do this however on leaving I was told informally that I would be taken back on when I returned, provided there was a job for me (which there was but I know this isn't a bargaining tool).
    So according to the rules my reckonable service is 7 years (2002-2009). Does anyone think I can negotiate more than this? The package is capped at 52 weeks so I would only be asking for another 1.5 years. Surely there is no harm in asking given my years of loyalty to this co :confused:

    The company isn't legally obliged to offer more than statuatory reduncancy which is way less than 52 weeks

    so it's up to them unless there is something else in writing
