make sure your wifi on laptop is turned on, some laptops have a physical switch on the front or side

scan for wifi access points on the computer, see if you're picking up any wifi access points

if you can see your access point but it won't connect, turning the access point off and on sometimes helps

reset your broadband router, pull out the plug put it back in sometimes mine needs a reset, after that reboot your laptop and scan for your network.

I had the same problem with my laptop, a dell. What I had to do was to take out the wireless card from my laptop, put it back in and then download the most up to date drivers for it. I had the aid of Dell technical support for this. I was able to access the wireless card by removing a panel on the bottom of the laptop.

I hope this might be some help to you.
