This ad is being discussed on Liveline at the moment. People are complaining that it excludes milk produced in the North of Ireland and that O' Connell should be ashamed of himself. They are claiming that if it's produced on the island of Ireland it should all be considered the same and that milk produced in the Republic shouldn't be allowed be advertised like that because it's illegal (apparently it breaks the Good Friday Agreement).

I should also add that most of those who have spoken so far work for Strathroy Dairies.....

I did think he was an odd choice, given he plays for a 32 counties team.

Bloody hell - it breaks the GFA? Should we care? How mad is that. I'm willing to guess that technical standards are not exactly the same in both juristictions and so the NDC could not include NI milk output.

we are two different states and people that were on the show saying its against the good friday agreement... what was that about. are the IRA going to come in over it or something. i likened it to austraian wine coming into france and a french group putting a label on bottles saying its french. consumers should know that the same laws were not applied to farms in the north and south. and also are the n.ireland dairies making more money with exchange rates?

I think its disgraceful this is even being discussed on the radio. How does this differ from doing your shopping in the north. Retailers dont like it as its money leveing the economy. Well farmers dont like it when were being undercut by the north either. Its money leaving the country and therefore the economy and being pumped into the english economy. Not on!! these people should be ashamed of themselves ringing in. when these northern companies add something to the southern economy apart from higher profit margins on liquid milk for Irish retailers then they have the right to complain.

It's the National Dairy Council after all, not the International Dairy Council....

Does any one else not think this mark is an utter joke? my cousin works in a milk factory in the border counties he was telling me last weekend of northern ireland milk trucks coming to the factory and then going out to shops with the NDC logo on the bottles.

people build borders for people, nature crosses all devides!

Stick to one thread on the subject, don't post identical content to multiple threads (especially in the same forum), and MOST especially, don't go resurrecting long since dormant threads to do so.

    Thread closed.
