My idea for this thread is for anyone to post up any conferences/talks that people know about in ireland where there is no charge to attend and also that they are accessible to the public.
    Here is one:
    http://www.molecularmedicineireland.ie/show/item/2/1356
''Structure-based systems biology of insulin and IGF-I receptors signalling''
Prof Pierre de Meyts, Hagedorn Research Institute, Denmark
Prof Pierre de Meyts is currently Scientific Director of the Receptor Systems Biology Laboratory at the Hagedorn Research Institute.
For a detailed biography, please click here
    Date: 9 December 2009, 1610-1700
Venue: Conway Institute of Biomolecular & Biomedical Research
    University College Dublin, Dublin 4
As part of the MMI course: Techniques & Strategies in Molecular Medicine, this keynote lecture is open to the public.
Pease contact education@molecularmedicineireland.ie if you wish to attend
Its the only free public one I know of now but ill post more when I hear of them.

These are both coming up soon in TCD.
The forthcoming workshop on viruses and immunity, hosted by Trinity College
Dublin, is aimed at promoting discussion between leading world experts and
young scientists. As part of the workshop there will be two public events:

    1. 'The Fight Against Viruses: Reports from the Front'

    Date: Thursday, May 6th
    Time: 6pm
Venue: Paccar Theatre, Trinity Science Gallery

From Hepatitis C to the Flu, researchers will engage in a lively and dynamic
debate describing novel developments in the battle against viruses. All you
want to know about cutting edge research into viral infections, vaccine
developments and the immune response will be presented in this flexible forum
of five minute talks, by the most dynamic young researchers at the workshop.

All are welcome and admission is free.

The event will be chaired by TCD’s Professor of Comparative Immunology, Cliona
O’Farrelly and Claire O’Connell of the Irish Times.

    2. World Virus Expert, Professor John Oxford to speak on ‘Viral Infections:
    Past, Present and Future Challenges’

    Date: Friday, May 7th
    Time: 6pm
Venue: Paccar Theatre, Trinity Science Gallery

The world renowned Influenza virologist Professor John Oxford, Professor of
Virology at St Bartholomew’s and the Royal London Hospital will give a lecture
on ‘Viral Infections: Past, Present and Future Challenges’. The lecture will
be chaired by TCD’s Professor of Biochemistry and recent recipient of the RDS
Irish Times Boyle Medal, Luke O’Neill.

Professor Oxford’s research interest is the pathogenicity of influenza, in
particular the 1918 Spanish Influenza strain. He worked under Sir Charles
Stuart-Harris, who in 1933 had isolated the influenza virus. Professor Oxford
then worked under Professor Graeme Laver, whose work with the crystallization
of the influenza protein formed the basis for the development of the Tamiflu
    vaccine.

He founded Retroscreen Virology, a leading contract virology research company.
Its work is dedicated to creating the next generation of antivirals and
vaccines in the field of biomedical research. Professor Oxford is also a
    prolific commentator in the media.

The two public events are part of a two-day international workshop, bringing
together world leading experts and young scientists in the fields of virology
and immunity. The workshop forms part of a European Molecular Biology
Organisation series of workshops and aims to identify new directions for
collaborative research between virologists who are expert in unraveling the
physiological mechanisms exploited by viruses and immunologists who focus on
host responses. The forum will provide the opportunity of identifying novel
research directions that might improve development of effective vaccines
    against these viral infections.

The workshop is organised by TCD researchers Professor Cliona O’Farrelly,
Professor Andrew Bowie, Dr Nigel Stevenson and Dr Liz Ryan from the School of
    Biochemistry and Immunology.
