Will someone think of the kids?

Monday evening a neighbour of ours got a knock on the door from a woman 3 doors down from her.. She was in a pretty stricken out state after been beaten up by her partner, and it didnt help that she was strung out on heroin either. She was there standing at the door looking for refuge with her 3 children - between the ages of 10 and 3. This is apparently not the first time and wont be the last time, despite the Gardai been called to the house by them several times.

Domestic violence is one issue, however having 2 drug addicted parents makes me think these children have no chance in life what so ever.
The eldest child has to take responsibility at times for feeding her youngest sister when her parents are too ****ed off their head to do it themselves, and at 10 years of age this is not a responsibility a child needs.

Ring the child protection services? (or whatever it's called)

AFAIK The Gardai are already obliged to do so in a case like this

Ring the church. They'll take care of them.

Seriously though, you may want to call child services yourself just to make sure yourself. In the end probably nothing will be done, but there's little you can do.

Snyper, Call the social workers in. Keep calling until they do something about it. If they visit and do nothing about it, keep calling.

Licence to have a Dog and all that.

This should have been posted in Humanities. Then you might actually get a serious answer.

Put the parents on heroin maintainance. They'll soon stablise at a functional dose and their lives will no longer be ruled by the drug. As a result they'll be able to take much better care of their children.

Oh, wait. This is after hours. Sorry, i lost the run of myself there. Don't know what got into me.

Obviously they should get the death penalty.

My point is that our neighbour doesnt have a doorbell. Thats why the woman knocked on the door as opposed to the comforts of the fingertip action of a doorbell

OP , bad choice of place to post this , but besides that and all the smartass comments , you need to go to the social services and guards. This country has be destroyed by people ignoring these incidents. Give the kids a chance in life .

aren't we supposed to fell sorry for heroin addicts and pretend we owe them something?

it is not their fault, it is an evil drug blah blah blah.

**** em. Heroin addicts should have their kids taken off them and should be forcibly sterilised.

Take the kids off them, throw the junkie "parents" in jail.

How does the cycle get broken unless someone intervenes. If the kids stay with the parents then they will more than likely get invloved with substance abuse. As much as it gauls me to say it, by helping the parents you automatically help the kids, but this should be closely monitored with a 3 strikes and the kids are taken off you policy.

Well if it has happened before, then there's no reason for it not to happen again and again and again. She seems to keep going back to him, so I don't think ther's a whole lot you can do. If you get involved, I can imagine her denying anything ever happened.

Put the parents under some sort of house arrest put the children in charge of everything including the benefits. Probably won't do any good but at least it would be an idea that could be sold to channel 4 as the next reality TV show.
