Extreme throbbing pain in tooth after filling

I had a small chip in my molar - it wasn't really bothersome but I got a few chills in it so I thought it was time to get something done.

It's been a week and I've been getting the most unbelievable extreme pain. There's a constant pain and also this incredible throbbing sensation that almost feels like it;'s pulling my head in different directions. It comes and goes randomly. It doesn't seem to have a lot to do with hot and cold but I'm sure the freezing weather isn't helping.

The tooth is mostly filling above the gum now so I'm worried about losing it. I had to have a molar on the other side removed because of a similar issue before - nothing would get rid of the pain. The thing is after the small chip came out it was working fine ever since. I can't afford crowns - unless there's some way to get one on medical card I'm going of screwed.

i take it that it's just woken you up or stopping you sleeping?? either way unprovoked pain from a tooth isn't a good sign so long after getting a filling. a couple of days maybe to allow for irritation from the drilling to settle down.

it often happens that people go in for a small problem where a tooth had a small chip, but if it's chipped there's an underlying cause, like decay or a fracture. the decay has to be (almost) completely removed, or the fracture removed (unless it's s basically splitting the whole tooth instead of just a side breaking off). it's probably not what you want to hear but it's just unlucky. if it didn't happen this way then the decay would've eventually caused similar pain. sounds like the nerve is hyperactive, which means it's dying off. at least your dentist should know exactly where to begin to sort it out.
unfortunately crowns are impossible to get on the med card, but that's now what you need right now. you're talking either extraction or root canal treatment (which would eventually need to be crowned).
at the minute, the best advice i can give you is solpadiene so you can get some sleep. alternate with paracetamol if you need to so that you won't come close to overdosing. and give your dentist a buzz in the morning to see if you need anything stronger or if they can sort you out.

Solpadeine contains paracetamol, so you should NOT take any other paracetamol-containing medication while you're taking Solpadeine or you may risk overdosing.

If you need something else in between doses of Solpadeine, you could take ibuprofen or similar, assuming you have no medical problems (such as asthma or stomach problems) which would prevent you from using this type of drug.

sorry, my bad. depends on the type of solpadeine, one of them combines ibuprofen and codeine without paracetamol. but like everything, read what's on the box.
