Regarding two netbooks mentioned, this first is running ubuntu. This might not be the place to ask the question but whats the story with running various software on this, web browsers etc, would i be giving my self a headache getting into this if i'm not a techie.

It's running linux, it'd be fine if all you were doing on it was browsing the web and email and stuff like that. You won't be able to install any applications you have running on your windows pc, so it could be considered limited. Although there is a huge amount of free software available for linux. The first machine does only have a rubbish 8Gb ssd, which is supposed to be quite slow.
The second machine has xp home and a 160Gb hard drive, it'd be the better of the two, but it's also more expensive.
