I've had my old car advertised on adverts for a week now but nobody has even come to look at it.

    http://www.adverts.ie/showproduct.php?product=159981&cat=500

A few friends have told me to take it to a scrap yard and that they would pay for it but a guy at Advance said that i'd have to pay 125Euro for them to take it. Who's right?

Any advice would be gratefully received, thanks

most scrap yards charge for your car to be scrapped i don't see why you couldn't sell it tho

Get her NCT'd and Tax'd, throw it back up on gumtree and donedeal for €500 and you're onto a winner. Then people will negotiate and you'll still get over the €150 you want for it :)

why are scrap yards charging for taking a car when they'll pay you for just the engine?

Because they now have to dipose off the car enviormentaly which costs them money

There was an article written in Car Mechanics a few months ago regards scrapping cars. Anyways the article was written about a mechanic/car dealer who was traded a Volvo 940 that required a bit of work. Anyway long story short it wouldnt pay him to repair it to pass the MOT and it was only worth about 300GBP.

He stripped it for parts and sold them on ebay, headlights, rear lenses, wheels, trim, airbags, odd bits of trim made about a few hundred off it.
