Been told that O'Halloran is a serious talent and is good/talented enough to get a 1st XV place in the Connacht team.

Who is the scrum half chupacabra?

Yeah, O'Halloran is probably the most promising young player in the country outside of maybe Macken at the moment. He has already won his first cap for Connacht in the Challenge cup but i reckon he will be snapped up by one of the provinces soon enough.

Du Toit is a very promising young scrum half playing his schools rugby with Kings Hospital in Leinster. His dad is South African i think but im not too sure. From what i have seen his kicking game and passing is some of the best in his age group, played a bit at 10 in school too. Destined for the U20 international squad next year i reckon and probably an academy place with Leinster too. There are a fair few promising scrum halfs around at the moment at Under age level in Con Murray, Dave Moore and now this lad.

Yeah spot on, he was a good cricket player too if I remember correctly. Damn Saffers...

Watch for James Tracey out of Newbridge College, he's been shadowed from the spotlight in terms of media recognition(in the exact same manner Heaslip was... the College's head coach at the time even advised the Irish Schools against selecting Jamie to their squad back in the day...) but he's always been picked in these teams the whole way up through his school years and from seeing him play regularly on the senior cup team since TY he's a quality prop.

Also interested to see Andrew Conway, the guy has a lot of hype surrounding him but he needs to put his head down now and fulfill it because I've heard some really disappointing things lately.

This should be a cracker, can't wait.

Yeah, i would really worry for Conway and Macken. They are being hyped up way too much and it can have an awful effect on a young players career, the pressure it brings etc. i have no doubt that both of them will play for Ireland some day, but for now they need to just pull the socks up, get the head down and play rugby.

  • Wish this game was televised, or even had any coverage whatsoever. Really enjoyed watching some of these lads play in the Leinster Schools Cup this year, and they're all bigger and better players at this stage!

Runs some exciting lines, and from the Leinster U20s interpros I saw this year, he was bright and eager. Not superbly strong from the boot, but he knows where he's going even before he has the ball. Knows where the white line is, and finds it, a lot!

This lad is already huge for his age, and hasn't lost a drop of pace with bulking up. A serious running centre with great vision, and serious intensity, training with the full Leinster squad and putting in hits as big as the rest of them.

An absolute tank of a scrum half, he's shaped like a bullet and has great pace and also a quick pass, a feature that only Stringer really brings to the table. Hopefully one for the future.

Such a hungry player, wants to be involved in every ruck and scrum and makes big tackles too, again a player to be nurtured and guided to become the real deal.

Everything thats been said about players being hyped too early is true, it can be a huge mistake and can add serious weight to a players shoulders. These guys are the players who will be contesting for spots in Irish teams of the future though. In particular the Leinster and Connacht underage setups are adept in controlling the flow of information and also talent from these groups.

Have played with Du Toit and he is a serious player, can play anywhere on the pitch. In fact the only position i think he's never played is probably prop! Hard as nails and has one of the finest passes around, surely destined for great things. His dad's South African, his uncles on his Mother's side played for Ireland back in the day so it does run in his blood!

Ireland: The out half kicked class some boot an he distributed the ball well.scrum half was so blocky he could have filled in for a backrow the forwards turned over made balls and broke the gain line loads.the future of Irish rugby looks ok.

    Ireland shut out Wallabies
    Thu, Dec 03, 2009

Ireland U-19 15 Australian Schools 0 : JAMES McKINNEY inspired Allen Clarke’s Ireland Under-19s to a memorable win over their Australian Schools’ Under-19 counterparts at Cork IT last night.

The Queen’s University outhalf kicked a perfect four from four as Ireland outclassed their Southern Hemisphere opponents on a cold Cork evening.

Australia came into the game on the back of 26 wins from 30 internationals in Britain and Ireland but soon found themselves behind courtesy of a penalty from McKinney.

Kyle Godwin missed an easy penalty for the visitors and Tiernan O’Halloran doubled Ireland’s advantage with a well-struck drop goal.

Ireland were good value for their early lead having played most of the rugby in the opposition half. Captain Jordi Murphy got through a power of work at blindside flank and winger Corey Hircock was a constant threat from broken play.

The set-piece also worked well and the backs showed plenty of imagination behind the scrum, even if their support play was at times a fraction slow.

The Wallabies struggled for want of a decent platform up front and looked most threatening on the counter attack. Centre Tyson Frizell twice stretched the home defence with searing breaks and Jacob Woodhouse also threatened from fullback.

They struggled to turn pressure into points however – Godwin missed another easy opportunity with the boot and they went into the break with a six-point deficit.

Ireland started the second half brightly with the outstanding Simon Hanbidge and David O’Mahony terrorising the Australian lineout, and James Tracy getting the nudge on in the scrum.

Kimami Sitauti then threatened to cut the home side open with a break from deep, but substitute Alex Kelly made a fine tackle with his first involvement in the game.

McKinney turned down a kickable penalty attempt on 45 minutes, then knocked over two in a row to put Ireland in a commanding lead.

All the while, Australia struggled to get out of their own half and Clarke’s men continued to force the game, both in attack and defence where their line speed was particularly impressive.

The frustrated visitors gave away penalty after penalty and McKinney rounded off the win with another clean strike late on.

    IRELAND UNDER-19: A Conway; T O’Halloran, B Macken, L Marshal (A Kelly 39), C Hircock; J McKinney (G Quinn McDonagh 66), P Du Toit (M Dolan 50); J Tracy (L Padian 70), D Doyle (K O’Byrne 70, M Moore (P Mullen 70); S Hanbidge (S Leckey 70), D O’Mahony; J Murphy (capt.), A Conneely (D Gallagher 59), E McKeon.

    AUSTRALIAN SCHOOLS UNDER-19: J Woodhouse; C Feauai, T Kingston, T Frizell, K Sitauti; K Godwin (R Esekia 62), M Lucas; J Kimmince, H Roach, P Alo-Emile; L Jones, G Peterson (J De Guingand 50); J Tuapou (capt), L Gill, N Paila (A Hamilton 38).

    Referee: David Rose (RFU).

I have to be honest, i sincerely think Tiernan O'Halloran is good enough to start for Connacht or at least be in the 22 week in-week out.

our front 5 were meant to be savage - never heard of any of them , not sure if anyone else did - but to beat up the Aussies at this stage is pretty good going
