Need a car sub 300 euro taxed and tested...

and max engine of 1.6 for tax reasons. Searched the usual suspects donedeal.ie, adverts.ie and autotrader and yet nothing. Im caught between a rock and a hard place as my car was written off last week and Im absolutely stretched to the max with money.

I've heard of people getting puntos, micras etc with tax and test for < 300 euros but have yet to come across these types of cars in my searches.

Im not asking for anyone to trawl through the car sites for me (I've had a pretty good look) but if anyone knows of anything going

Sub 300 is too much to ask. I've seen a few sub 500 cars with tax and test, but I'd be wary of most of what I've seen.

Try your local newspaper small ads, gumtree etc. I think it costs about 20 euro to advertise on the car websites so you might find sellers dont want to pay that sort of money to advertise a sub-€300 car

Needs an NCT and the engine thingy doesn't sound the may west but you may get it cheap enough.

I know its a tall order lads, but if anyone can find me one its the boardsies! I really wouldnt touch a corsa with one of those ecotec engines and a punto with a "smokey engine" sounds like something Id spend another 500 on and it still wouldnt be right...

Came across an 98' Avensis today for 350 euros, a foreign lad selling it.

Has:
130k Miles
New front tyres
Back tyres at 50%
Needs wing (badly dented)

He says the water pump is gone :rolleyes: If it was the water pump id make an offer allright but im suspicious of the head gasket being gone, plenty of rust inside the rad and evidence of bottles of water in the car from regular top ups of water. No white gunk on the oil fill cap though. Thats as far as my expertise goes in defining whether a head gasket is gone or not or would these symtoms be the same with the water pump gone as he says?

Even if it's just the water pump it would probably cost 250+ to fix anyway, along with timing belt.. probably not worth it.

Tbh it's pointless coming up with all these ads where it is clear the car does not have both tax and test. And it is also pointless coming up with cars that need work doing before they can drive away / or are unsafe. The OP doesn't have any money to get it fixed.

But maybe the OP should raise the bar to 500 notes?

I have a 1998 polo that had a bit of front bumper damage - it was easily fixed without being replaced, but they did happen to say that if it had had to be replaced it would have set me back at least 400/500 (I don't recall the exact figure) as it would need to be ordered in, resprayed etc etc. I'm no mechanic at all - but I think that the bumper on that polo wouldn't pass an nct without being replaced - even if you could do it yourself, it'll add a bit more to the price of it.
