Is Lisburn a better option over Newry ?

The Mrs and I are are heading up the north tomorow to do the Christmas shop. Last year we went to Newry and although there were good bargains/prices, it was mad busy. (The main thing I found handy was that once I parked up in the quays carpark we walked to both shopping centres from there)
I fancy driving on further to Lisburn (although I've never driven any further than Newry) I.ve seen on the web that there is a sainsbury superstore and also large tescos and the bowstreet mall in the town centre itself.
Would any experience shoppers to the north recomend Lisburn over Newry? if so any tips/advice also how much further driving time is it pass Newry.
    Thanks in advance

If your going Sainsburys Lisburn is in another league to Newry, it's well stocked, much more room for parking and there's less vultures to make your way through when your shopping. It's 20 minutes up the road but you will save much more than that as you won't have to Q going down the hill into Newry and go around the car park for half an hour looking for a space. There's a B&Q, Argos and Currys in the same car park as Sainsburys and across the road there's a big M&S, Boots and JJB Sports. If you head into Lisburn itself there's Bow Street Mall which has pretty much the rest of the shops you would find in Newry.

If you're looking for real shopping and bargains, for me The Outlet in Banbridge ticks all those boxes. I don't find Newry that great to be honest. Nor do I find Craigavon great either. I was in Portadown as well and it was a similer story to Craigavon. Dull.

If you could at all I'd avoid Newry like the plague and head on towards Banbridge, Lisburn and Belfast.

Lisburn is definitely a better option and only 10 mile from belfast so you might as well have a look there too

Just back from Lisburn an hour ago. Can't believe the savings compared to Newry where i usually shop. Well worth the extra 15 minutes in the car as the place was'nt busy at all.:)

Yes it's much better stocked and you can actually get the 2 for 1 and the half price deals, well worth the extra drive it's not a bad road for traffic either.

Either one will ship the money out of the country effectively.

Yes Guinness and Irish Distillers in Dublin must be loving the export business coming from people shopping in that country ;)

Wel did Lisburn yesterday. Left carlow 6am and arrived at the roundabout for turning off to Newry at 8am. kept driving straight thoug for lisburn. arrived at the Sprucefield by 8.35am.
Much more relaxing than newry i have to say. On arrival the good lady and myself had an ulster fry and tea in the restraunt in sainsburys (£3.50 each) before embarking on a crowd free shop in the store.
same also in the argos next door - no mad crowds before driving across to the M&S shopping centre. Again not too mad there, no problem getting parking or no mad ques in the shops.
Drove on the further 5 minutes up to the bow st. mall and again no mad crowds everywhere and a great selection of shops.
we left Lisburn at 4pm and stopped off at the banbridge outlets for an hour, it was like a ghost town there. And then on way home pulled into newry for a couple of hours, as the missus loves Debenams. newry shopping centre was reasonably quiet at this hour I have to say.
left newry at 7pm and no problems with traffic at all and back in carlow town by 9.15.
Legs are sore today from the driving and walking around, but I have to say it was worth it just to see the smile on my shopaholic wife's face all day yesterday as she was in her element filling up the car with all her bargain shopping
