    Hello film fans,

Just wanted to know if anyone has seen Michael Mann's The Keep?

If so, what did you think of it? Would you recommend it?

    Cheers.

I haven't, in fact as far as I'm aware, it's not available on DVD and is unlikely ever to be. Anyway from what I've read about the film, it's quite bad and Mann himself was very disappointed with how it turned out.

I have read the book though and it's a cracking read.

    Hello,

Yeah the book is great. Very creepy i must say. Ive just found the movie on youtube & oh dear it doesnt look too good.
Very loud eighties soundtrack by Tangerine Dreams doesnt help either!!!

The scene where the german soldier peers into that massive underground ancient cavern looks pretty cool actually.

Oh it's on Youtube? Excellent I'll watch that later so. I heard they absolutely butchered the plot but the effects are meant to be decent.

Just watching it now. Its slow, badly scripted with a clumsy plot.

    Yet im still enjoying it?

Great movie, there's a directors cut, which mann originally wanted to release, in the works too, which should weigh in around 3 hours.Apparently still a bit of in fighting going on so the release has been delayed for the last 2 or 3 years. The only problem I had with it was that it was a bit rushed and you could tell it was butchered by the editor to get it down to the hour and a half.Still though, there is something about it that, regardless of the crappy music and dodgy effects, really makes it stick in your mind.

Lol me too. On part 4 now and our very own Gabriel Byrne has just made his entrance as the SS commando leader :pac:

    Yeah i actually enjoyed it.
Definitely unusual, pity its not available on dvd. Its a right old mess watching films on youtube. Better than nothing I suppose.

Thats some heavy duty synthesizer music.:D

    Well that was..strange...

I think that if I hadn't read the book I wouldn't have had the slightest clue what was going on there. It's like they just chose random points to cut it was so incoherent.

Must say though, some nice acting by Jurgen Prochnow, especially his rant against Gabriel Byrne's character.

Yeah he was in Das Boot im sure.
Scott Glenn is a cool guy. he's great at staring in this film, not too many lines. lol.

The editing is atrocious. Very eighties, they just had to squeeze in the old obligatory sex scene, dont remember that in the book.

I'd say its a matter of time before they release it on dvd, there seems to be a huge level of interest in it.

Lol that sex scene was hilariously bad. And random as hell! I'm pretty sure it was in the book though.

I love that soundtrack. Tangerine Dream also did a great score for Sorceror.

I love this movie. It used to terrify me as a kid. I've seen it way too many times. It's got such a great atmosphere to it. Brilliant cast too and I always loved the music, it's mad that the end credits theme is 'We're walking in the air' from the Snowman. Can't wait for the directors cut.

There is also a rather nice laserdisc rip to be found online.

Haven't seen it in a long time but as previously mentioned I can remember the soundtrack taking over the film. Must watch it again.

Its got bags of atmosphere, i'l give it that.
So sick of the current slasher movies that are about as scarey as a slice of cheese.

Anybody else agree that the horror films from 70/80's seem to be way better than the rubbish in cinemas now?
