Just back training on the road after many years and I must say I'm loving it, I am trying to get some miles in the evenings and was wondering if anyone had any suggested night routes. At present I'm doing a run from Kilmainham over howth a few times and back, but wouldn't mind getting away from the coast wind. Are there well lit quiet routes in the Dublin area with a few drags on them or am I asking a stupid question and everyone is indoors on trainers? Nice wan

I often do the Dublin Outer Ring road from Lucan to Kingswood and then head up past Saggrt to Brittas.

Pretty fast circuit once you get away from the traffic lights coming out of Lucan. Very well light all the way to saggart.
Road from saggart to Brittas is unlight mind you.

    It is pretty flat however.

Purpose the obvious one would be the phoenix park. Doing a search on here should link you to a google map. Relativly quiet but rush hour in the evenings can be chaotic. Im chicken so spend winter on the turbo!

Good route. You can add a bit of hillage by taking the right turn off the N81 up by Slade Valley Golf Club or the one at the Blue Gardenia pub. There are some nice, quiet lanes with short but steep hills if you fancy a few hill repeats (it's basically the same ridge that runs from the hill above Saggart, parallel to the N81 on the right hand side almost as far as Ballymore Eustace). You can then come back down either through Saggart or onto the Kilteel Road and then take a right towards Rathcoole.
Mind you I've never gone that way in the dark ;)
