Hi, I'm planning on doing some xmas shipping online - sellers from US and China. Am I going to get hit for customs tax (aka excise duty) ? Is there anyway of avoiding this?

If the value of your goods is over a certain limit (I believe its €22 euro) then yes you will get hit for import duty on both the cost of the item and the cost of shipping.

Attempting to avoid this is breaking the law.

You can't, its illegal. Over €22 and you will have to pay.

You can't, its illegal....... but if you can get the shipping company to put on the box replacement warranty parts you will not need to pay !

A friend did this on a box from the states and did not pay any vat or tax.

Asking for them to put a false declaration on the box is a criminal offense, it's tax evasion, and carries severe penalties.

I do agree with you that it is illegal.
But we also need to look at all the tax and vat we pay and where this is now.

Boards will not condone the avoidance of duty and VAT.

Thread moved to Online Buying & Auctions.

Which has nothing to do with anything. End thread.
