Anybody into this guy? I think he's great, a bit like an acoustic version of the Arctic Monkeys. Amazing lyrics, and just really natural or something.

I really like him, especially the Ballad of Me and My Friends

He can be quite good lyrically, but sometimes the words don't flow very well

Saw him supporting The Gaslight Anthem in March, thought he was very good.

Everything's going great for Frank, actually. I reckon he'll break the charts in the not too distant future. In the meantime, he signed to Indie punk label Epitaph Records last year. Myself and a mate put on his first 3 Dublin gigs and he's put us on the guestlist and given us a shout-out at every Dublin gig he's played since. Nicest chap in the world, tbh. He's playing The Academy on May 29th. Cya there?! ;)

Looking forward to the end of May gig :)

Its just everyday/every man lyrics, and its in that i think the appeal is

you can relate tot he majority of his songs

This Saturday folks... tickets on the door @ the Academy 2

In the meantime I defy anyone to find a catchier tune than this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQMVHhxTtLc

Does anybody here genuinely like this music? His lyrics are a standard exercise in mediocrity, not to mention his awful phrasing. The music itself feels I dunno, somewhat lightweight and generic.

Yes, it's a thread. A thread invites discussion and debate. I'm not attempting to derail the thread, I just can't see the appeal and was wondering why he's so liked. :)

I personally love his lyrics, they're clever without being annoyingly pretentious, like most people with good lyrics are. The songs, while aren't produced to some amazing standard, are great songs, which is why the work with just a mediocre singer and guitarist.

Seen him twice...(supporting green day in both manchester + wembley stadium)

Didn't think i'd like him.....seeing him changed that :pac: He's pretty damn epic :)

Billy Bragg wipes the floor with him and his ilk.

I wouldn't consider myself a massive fan but I do love this one...

It's a great tribute to a friend without being mushy or over sentimental. Same goes for the video.

Who knew that music was a competition?

TBH, I love Franks music, have seen him live, puts on a very good show. I love his lyrics, and the music works. It's not about everything usually, it's about him and his friends usually.

My favourite song of his changes from time to time, and right now it's this as I only heard it 20 mins ago.

I absolutely adore Frank, and pretty much everything he's done post-Million Dead.

Was loving I Still Believe, but he's started playing an even newer song in the last few days. It's short, and simple. But it's magic.

I saw him live this summer and it was one of the best live shows I've ever seen. I'd never heard of him before and had no expectations but I absolutely loved him. I've listened to his CDs since and I have to say, he was so fantastic live that the studio versions of his songs aren't as impressive. He's a very charismatic, energetic performer and even though his songs aren't exactly masterpieces, the way he performs them definitely makes up for it. Can't wait to see him again.

    Id agree with this,

    very relatable songs

A friend dragged me along to see him. "Poor mans Billy Bragg" i said to him. To which my friend replied " Upper middle class Billy Bragg actually". Didnt know he attended Eton (old bean). I'm sure he'll tire of punk rock someday and get a job in daddies company.

Disappointed there is no Irish gig in the tour,

The academy was class last year.

Met him after the Birmingham gig actually

Nah, that's bull, meet him for 5 minutes and you will see that he is cool and loves what he does. Next album will be his magnus opus, I feel it will be the one that trully makes him. Whether it does or not really doesn't matter, he will take the Loudon Wainwright route and just keep touring regardless because he really does have fun with what they do.

I was just coming to post that, listened to it full this morning, I can't fcuking wait for the hard copy with 3 other songs, lyrically his strongest album to date, though I think that it could have been laid in a different order for the first 5 or so songs as they don't mesh as well as they could.

Only the Deluxe edition has the 3 songs, they are Song for Eva Mae, I've heard it, not his strongest, but a good song about his God child, Balthazar Impresario which I didn't hear yet and Wanderlust, not heard yet. I am like a child on Xmas waiting for this! :D But stupid bank holiday means I'm waiting til tuesday at latest.

Love the new album. Thanks to the NME website. Must buy it today.
Anyone know if he is planning to play live here this year? It looks like he is playing every other country except here. I may have to trek to some dodgy festival to catch him line unless he decides to make a stop off over here.

He'll be announcing uk and Ireland dates on the 16th. I am guessing academy 2 is where he'll be playing, but that's conjecture. Doubt he will play anywhere else.

Edited to add: Album just arrived, have already listened to it, but the case is possibly the best I have ever seen, elegant and pristine. fantastic look and feel to the whole thing.

Just got the album there. 15 quid for fifteen songs is quality value particularly when you consider how well it's presented! Just making myself 'a decent cup of tea' and about to give it my first proper listen, can't wait!

His twitter on the 1st June! :) He says UK dates, but I would assume he will do Ireland then as well.

I really think it's fantastic value for his music, I would happily pay more, but am delighted he's not a theiving cnut.
