Must be a mad 24 hours today for doing mad things.
I see Pete Dougherty was just thrown off stage in Germany last night! He caused outrage after singing the Nazi anthem LOL
The man has a death wish!
The singer who is no stranger to controversy, was hauled off stage by organisers of the on3 festival in Munich after playing Deutschland, Deutschland ueber alles.
Festival-goers reportedly booed and shouted at Doherty but he kept on singing until he was eventually removed from the stage.

Doherty sang lines from the first verse of the Song of Germany, which was used as the national anthem under the Nazis...

Is the world not full of dafter people than the last generation or is our share of present day nutters just more loud about their antics!

Hardly a "Nazi" song, as the music to the anthem is the same now as it was then, the lyrics are just different. It's actually a common mistake. IIRC it happened at a sporting event not too long ago when the wrong verse was sung.

    Here we go.

After a Germany-Poland game in the last world cup me and some mates who were inter railing thought it would be fun to translate Irelands call into German and sing it for ze germans in old east Berlin.

We tried to get the crowd singing... "Deutschland, Deutschland". Suffice to say nobody joined in :(

We had no idea why until someone mentioned Hitler was a fan of the song back in the day.

I thought "Horst Wessel" was the official Nazi anthem?

Perhaps they hauled him off the stage because he's a twat, and not because he was singing the 1939 German Eurovision Song Contest entry.

He should've tried to save himself and sang a rendition of 'Nazi Punks Fcuk Off' by the Dead Kennedys.

Maybe it wasnt because he sang a Nazi song, maybe it was just because he was a crap singer in general?

...NAZI general or ordinary general? :D

Perhaps he was covering a Dead Kennedy's song and is just geographically challenged?

Either way - he is a cock and would not be missed.

Why would they have paid to see him though?

Maybe they couldn't understand the English on his poster for the gig.

"Come on down you lucky Germans.
Fun, excitement and a MASSSIVE Nazi tribute as sung by Pete Doherty.
Featuring such hit songs as "Rebuild the wall before I kill your dog", "Put your hand in the air and walk around like a robot" and "Thank fcuk Hitler's parents didn't use a condom".
If you like Pete Doherty then say Ja Ja Ja".

To be fair, the man is a lyrical genius.

But what did they expect from a man who wrote a song entitled "Arbeit Macht Frei".

    Is PD not dead yet?

It's typical: only the most annoying junkies seem to get the gift of an iron constitution.

Here's fervently hoping for a poisoned batch of smack in 2010.
