At what point do you consider yourself a drinker?

The other smoking thread seems to have a high quantity of holier than thou non-smokers who label anyone who has ever taken a puff a durtty smokur, and there is no consideration of casual smokers, drink smokers, cigar at a wedding smokers.

I want to know, are you people drinkers?

When asked do you drink, do you usually just blurt out "yes" or is the normal responce something like "not that much" or "every couple of weekends"?

    Bit of hypocrisy?

Does drink do less damage in this country than smoking?

Or just is it all those bloody campaigns vilifying smokers while Dara O pugface Briain encourages us to go to the pub to consume alcohol have us all convinced there is a difference.

    AH do your thing.

I Consider myself a drinker as I would go out most weekends, and during the week for soccer matches and sh1t too, I'm not addicted but i like a pint, is there really a line that can be drawn for drinking??

When you can get to ten and not fall over a lot then you're a real drinker.

I think its interesting that there is "a line" for smoking and not drinking.

I wanna see if anyone can explain that to a satisfying degree.

When I've been arrested for drink driving then I'll conclude I'm a drinker.

I'd have three options for each:

    Non smoker/drinker
    Doesn't do either

    Social smoker/drinker
    Odd cigarette when out/after dinner
A pint or two watching the match, glass of wine at dinner

    Smoker/Drinker
20 a day, hammered every weekend

I've seriously cut back on the amount I drink, and how often I go out over the last few years. Socially I've been going to the cinema more with friends rather than a night out at the pub, but I still consider myself a drinker. I do drink alcohol, and when I do, I enjoy it.

What about the Smoking section from option B, and the drinking section from option C, that'd be more me than any of the three.

I wouldnt class a drinker as someone
that gets drunk every weekend but
certainly that drinks on a regular basis.

I only drink after having a couple of pints so I would't really consider myself a drinker.

only applies if you nut the cop and can't remember what your name is.

How many offences would have to be comitted in order for a person to be considered a rapist?

Strictly speaking, a social drinker as above and a drinker as above, are both drinkers.

Really you have to define what a drinker is by defining what a non drinker is. A non drinker being someone who never consumes alcohol.

In ireland, you can pretty much consider yourself a drinker once you reach your 15th birthday

To quote the late, great Brendan Behan.

"I'd call myself a drinker with a writing problem"

    and

"I only drink on two occasions, when I'm thirsty, and when I'm not"

You are not drunk if you can lie on the floor without holding on

Labeling people who smoke as a smoker is not holier-than-thou, don't be ridiculous. There is consideration for casual smokers, drink smokers etc. but the point is that those are all a subset of the category "smoker". They all smoke, so they are smokers. It's in the same vain as Roman Catholicism, CoI, Orthodox are all subsets of Christianity. I'm not the one who's applying the negative connotations with the word, if you do, it's your own fault.

Consuming alcoholic beverages makes you a drinker. What kind of drinker is up to you, whether you be a casual drinker, heavy drinker etc. Anybody who is not a non-drinker is a drinker. There's really no need to add grey areas to these things, it's unnecessary.

Shure isint everybody in ireland a drinker? I know i am. The real question should be 'are you an alcoholic?' i would probably (definitely) consider myself one, i could drink a keg by myself in 2 weeks, (6 or 7 pints every nite) but dont think i could handle the (12 pints plus.,) pubs of christmas..

Ask me 2-3 years ago: functioning alcoholic would have been a fitting description.

Nowadays: rarely, if ever, during the week. Saturday afternoon after work, usually one or two while watching the football on the television in the pub.

That's about it, nowadays. Rarely drink much, except for odd occasions. Can still hold it well enough, but pay severely for it the next morning... Worshipping before the porcelain altar for a few hours...:(

Consider yourself a drinker when you wake up covered in love bites and your underpants filled with excrement.

You're not a drinker unless someone describes you as, "Oh, he's a real drinker, he is."

See? REAL drinker being the key word, here.

The rest of you just play one on t.v.
