Does anyone know if the plans for the Newlands cross flyover are going ahead or has this all been put on hold. How long did the fly over on the N4 take to complete and was there much traffic disruption?

Present Position: October 2009 - The National Roads Authority are currently seeking expressions of interest for Public Private Partnership for the construction of a Grade Separated Interchange at Newlands Cross.

Something like this would take 1-2 years to build.

I think it was less than a year if memory serves me right, disruption wasn't too bad either, certainly not much worse than before construction started. It has been a massive improvement, even if the traffic light sequence is a little slow.

Did they really think that the N4 flyover was a greater priority requirement?

I hear the work is supposed to start this year. hopefully the traffic won't be a nightmare during the project, it's bad enough as it is at peak hours. I use this route everyday.

Apparently the contract's been signed, and the contract start date in June1, with a 2 year contract length. The contract included building the Beehive-Arklow bypass section of the N11 as DC also, so Newlands may not take the entire time of the 2 years.

Will Newlands Cross end up like the Kinsale Road roundabout in Cork where the major road (N7) passes overhead via a flyover and there's a roundabout below it for continuous flow traffic?

Edit: N7 traffic on a flyover, other traffic regulated by traffic lights.

    Ah the "Magic Roundabout".
Hopefully not! That roundabout is an awful mess, albeit with a load of exits and a messy configuration.

Think they're supposed to be starting construction in May and it will take two years. Not looking forward to it because my room is facing the construction site. Will just have to buy ear plugs I spose.

Newlands X is a crossroads, the magic roundabout had 5 roads approaching it.
