If there's already a thread for this, apologies but I went down as far as page 6 and gave up looking! So are any of you still using the iPhone 2G? Given that a reliable 3G service is only available in a few places (even up here in the North!). There's some 2nd hand 2G's in quite good nick around at the moment that are actually affordable. I was thinking of going for a 2G model as 3G and 3Gs iPhones are just crazy money - I mean it's a desirable piece of kit alright, but at the end of the day it's a phone.

i went from a 2g to a 3GS in June and i would never ever go back.

the iphone when utilising a 3G network is how the 2g iphone SHOULD HAVE been.

they pitched the first gen iphone as having the internet in your pocket where ever you were but in reality it was piss poor. the iphone using a 3g/hsdpa network is what truely makes the iphone great now.

sure they are expensive but so is every other smartphone.

and to say an iphone is just a phone is quite ridiculous to say the least when it's a decent audio player, internet device, gps, games machine and all round information at your fingertips device.

If you pay cheap, you pay twice....

Trust me, better dish out all the money for 3g/3gs, then buy 2g now cheaper and realisining in 1 month that you need 3g/3gs and buying it again...

I don't know, it all depends on what you want to do.

I used my 2G on Meteor EDGE for over a year, without problem. I used e-mail, mobile Boards.ie and the occasional radio streaming, stuff like that.

I had no need for 3G and I managed just fine.

Having said that, I am currently contemplating jumping ship to the Nokia N900.

Cheers anyway guys, although I'm still a bit tempted to go cheapo and opt for a 2G, I fully understand that I'll only have it a short time and probably end up kicking my self for not waiting and getting the 3G/s. So I think I'll just wait till I see a decent offer on a 3G.

If you're happy with not using Mobile internet ( you can get wi-fi in lots of places anyway ) a good 2G would be a bargain imo. If you intend on gettting a data plan and using the internet/streaming etc. then would definitely go 3G i've had both and the difference is huge. Afaik all the apps work on the 2G anwyay? that would be a big thing to check too...

Be careful on buying used look at the screen really carefully, it is rare that they get scrapped anyway but try it with white displayed on screen if possible as small scrapes won't show up otherwise.
