Does dit have any systems with large processing power? or a super computer. AFAIK there were some staff and nuim that said they had a mini super computer that was only available to 4th year projects or something like that for use.

Does DIT have something similar? If so i assume they have some similar restrictions on who can use it right?

I've never heard of one in DIT if they do have one. Trinity College has one.

Considering how often the labs and the network work I really doubt it

The School of Computing is working with IBM Ireland on their Cloud computing research, so if you need a super-super computer, the SoC can get access to it.

You can use a load of compters at the same time to process large calculations or renders.

Seen it done in Bolton St. before

yeah Judas is right. often they if you can come up with some problem that needs large processing power they will utilise parallel processing which is hooking several computers up together. it's pretty impressive if you get it going and will guarantee good marks in any final year project.
