    From SkyNews

    Breaking News

Four police officers have been shot dead near an air force base in Washington, US, according to reports.

The officers were killed near McChord base in Parkland, Fox News said.

Pierce County Sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer told local television station KOMO-TV that the officers were hit at about 8.30am (local time) this morning.

KING-TV reported the shootings occurred in the Lakewood area south of Tacoma, at a coffee shop on Steele Street.

The News Tribune of Tacoma reported the officers were shot at Forza Coffee.

Mr Troyer told the newspaper the officers were sitting in the coffee shop with their computers when the gunman entered.

He added that investigators believe the officers were targeted and it was not a robbery.

"It was just a flat out ambush," he told the paper.

    More follows...

Oh and how come i cant watch sky news live on my pc anymore?

It must be some US cultural thing...

    All authority must be shot

maybe this is what happens to public servants in the US, when they are caught watching porn on work time.

Seriously though, sounds like another nutbag with access to an automatic weapon. Again brings in to question how easy it is to get your hands on a gun in the US.

I don't think out lawing gun ownership is going to make it better in the US. Criminals will get guns no matter how difficult.

    1) We don't know that it was an automatic weapon. They are generally somewhat rare.
    2) We don't know that it was a nutbag. The fact that only the police were shot indicates that this chap had a very specific issue with a certain couple of individuals. My guess, local criminal types.

Most people don't realise getting a fully automatic weapon as a civilian in the U.S. isn't easy. It was probably some kind of semi-auto rifle.

Doesn't the text in your location refer to the anthrax attacks, where five people died...?

Tacoma city and not Seattle. Completely different cities, Tacoma always had the reputation of being a dangerous kip.

Well it looks like the American cops caught up with him and shot him dead.
I suspect there was no way they were going to let him live. The world won't mourn his loss - just the poor four shot and the families effected by him.

Man shouldn't have been on the street to begin with. Out on bail for child rape and assaulting an officer.

I work with a bunch of cops. This is an outcome they both expected and believe justified.

I am reminded of the incident in Florida when they found another chap who killed a cop or two. Shot over fifty times. The Sherrif said that the reason they shot him that many times was that was all the bullets they had, else they'd have shot him more.

It may have been expected but it certainly is not justified in terms of upholding the law.

I will add however that I shed no tears for him.
