Left-Handed Guitarists

    Hey :)
I'm left handed and I've recently taken up guitar and I'm using a left-handed guitar at the moment that I borrowed and I'm just wondering if it would be better in the long run to learn it right handed? It definitely feels more comfortable playing with my left hand but would that be really awkward in the future? When the only guitar I can play is my own left handed one? And I think I look really weird playing with my left hand as well. I'm using a borrowed guitar which happens to have the strings arranged for a left handed person but I'm hoping to get my own guitar in the next week or so. Do you think it would be too hard to get used to playing it right handed? I really don't want to be the awkward fussy one who has to play her guitar the opposite way. I love the guitar and I want to continue playing it so what do you guys think?

    Cheers. :p

My advice is to play what comes natural, and is most comfortable for you, which, from what you say is "leftie". The only draw back I can see would be in the selection of guitars available to you. Nothing wrong or unusual in playing left handed. You are in good company with the likes of Jimmy Hendrix and Albert King. ;)

Hi, op, i'm a lefthanded guitarist playing about 3 years now. I had the same worries when I was starting out. I think the benefits of playing lefthanded outweigh the negatives.

    Positives:

Much more natural and easier to play.

Will learn much quicker than if
    trying to learn techniques with
    your bad hand.

Less likely to have people coming up
    borrowing/hogging your guitar 'cause
they won't be able to play it.

    Negatives:
Just bloody awkward when going anywhere,
you have to bring your own guitar with you.
    Especially annoying when spontaneous sessions
    break out at parties.

Less guitars to choose from and Lefty versions
are more expensive. However you can overcome
this by just getting a right handed guitar and
    switching the strings around.

    Hope this helps.....
