Are parents now more cautious about their sons becoming altar boys in the wake of the Murphy Report.

    Don't Care
What does "let them at it" mean?

I'd appreciate it if nobody responds to the thread or votes in the poll until we get clarification on that point.

Let them be altar boys if they so wish.

    Don't Care
    Ok, thanks.

I answered "no" because I would always be cautious of leaving my child in the presence of another adult that I don't really know. As such I'm no more cautious as I would have been cautious already.

    Girls can serve mass too...

Oh. Forgot about that. Have their been any cases of priests abusing female altar servers? They seem to abuse boys more often according to the media. Have heard a few cases relating to girls but were they servers?

    No
I think it's madness to leave kids anywhere near priests tbh.

Then again, I'm not very religious.

my concern is the control the church has over many of our schools...

    Let them at it!
I voted Don't Care because I can't ever see my children serving mass.

If they did, I don't think I'd be any less or more vigilant than I would be about other adults that they encounter. Kids shouldn't be left alone for significant amounts of time with any adult be they teachers, coaches or priests.

Children are left with teachers for like 6 hours a day. How many days a year? How many years?

One on one for six hours?

My children are not catholic so they would never become altar servers but it wasn't just altar servers which were abused.
