Is it just me or does anyone else think Stephan Ferris is over hyped , I would prefer Neil Best or Dennis Leamy as blindside - thought we did better yesterday when Sean O'Brien came on ?

    I don't.

    He is a cracking 6.
Give literally everything you would want from a 6.
Hits like a wrecking ball, carries well, strong as an ox.
My only gripe is he breaks too much, although less than Leamy, (who he is better than IMO)

He's been rushed back from injury hence why he isn't playing as good as he can. In fact this wreaks of the same problem we had with David Wallace in 2007, he f*cked his ankle and instead of the Provincial and International management giving him time to recover they both rushed him back to the point where he couldn't give 100%

Ferris is standout at his position, way ahead of competition

I think Ferris was an injury doubt before the SA match.

    Next!!

Its just you, I agree on Neil Best coming back into contention though. Cracking player who is getting back to his "best" form!

I think it's just you OP. He is not fully fit and was rushed back by Ulster as they rely heavily on him.

He is a serious player and when fully fit he will have everyone talking about him again.

For my money, he's probably the best 6 in the NH. Maybe 2nd in the world, behind Elsom.

He appears to be slightly injury prone which is very unfortunate, as he's definitely the best blineside available to Ireland.

Yeah i am a massive Ferris fan,but have been questioning in th injury thing myslef. After he did his ligament in SA he came back for maybe 1 or 2 ML games and was a late fitness call on them, then missed another game or 2,it's all hit and miss whether he starts or not since the start of the season.
I hope he can get it sorted out as he is my favourite Irish player and truly awesome at what he does,he was pivitol in the grand slam and we will need him 100% if we want to do it again this year

Watch this at around the one minute mark. Ferris is an animal. I hope that injury is sorted out properly.

Ferris could do with a bit of a rest but he's so important to Ulster as he owuld be to nearly any side.I'm waiting for Leamy to get a real injury free run together as he's a quality player.Neil Best is another good option if he can keep his head straight.

I remember Tony Buckley doing something similar to Simon Shaw!

But I agree about Ferris. He is still so young, if he gets over these little injuries he will be world class.

Not only is he strong though, he's seriousy quick. Remember for the Lions when he ran the pitch against backs?

As much as I love a running back row player, Tom Croft doesn't deserve to even be mentioned in this debate.

Ferris is Ireland 6 first choice
Ferris was Lions 6 first choice

Ferris is explosive, quick, clever, strong and a serious serious talent.

With a bit of a better run without injury, see this guy develop into an ever present on the team sheet.

Ehm, he actually wasn't. When was he deemed the Lions first choice 6? Might of been some of the fans view but that wasn't the case on tour.

I disagree, I would say he was favourite to start at 6.

Opinions are great because they can be so different. I'd take a fit Ferris over any of those mentioned.

That's alot different then saying he was first choice.

    No its not, its semantics.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Semantics

Ferris was a shoe in for the Lions, and it was generally accepted that he would start at 6.

Apart from the spelling, can you tell me how that is a lot different?

Did McGeechan not say Ferris would have started at 6 if he hadn't been injured? I'll admit that its very possible I'm making this up.

Hard for a player to be as physical as Ferris without picking up injuries. I would say that he as without a doubt one of the stand out players in the GS for us and is on current form a country mile ahead of Leamy and Best! So OP I think maybe it is just you!
