That because TG4 have provided variety rather then just News and Current Affairs. They have dramas, comedies, documentaries, entertainment shows (which also need to be reviewed IMO not as good as they used to be), quality american TV, Kids programming and France 24.

Your title is a little long. :)

    Yes it is a bit.
Great to see it can be done though, a small enough station with some great stuff - never forget the Docu in Venezula during the attempted coup, brill

It was actually funded by a number of TV stations and shown on RTÉ, produced independently. RTÉ used their True Lives series of docs for this one. The doc about the Irish Poet and other docs also come to mind. Cogar would be a similar series on TG4.

Indeed they did get lucky. And the CIA didn't, I thought that the hypocrisy of the upper classes was far more interesting then the actual coup.

However that would be a political discussion not for here.

Agreed. No Irish here either (and no interest in learning it either). But Rasai Na Gailimhe shown recently was a damn sight funnier than Val Falvey TD.

    TG4 doesn't rhyme with sure ;)

    As for Wiki : -

But wiki can be wrong so Imdb will have to be a better reference point :)

And the list of companies involved: -

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0363510/companycredits

Power Pictures did produce a number of TG4 documentaries.

If you had €30 - 40 million of Irish taxpayer's money your tv station could show alot of good show's!

Yes indeed TG4 got a fair wack over the last few years, Increase exponentially in 2008 from 25million up to 35million and it is about to decrease exponentially in 2010.

But they still are doing more in prime time than TV3 who have 60million to spend. I am sure the independents would hate to see TG4 go by the way side.

It is down to how TG4 have sought funding from sound and vision and NIILF also. TG4 are happy to sent 30 shows into the BAI and Northern Screen for commission and are happy to add their money to the pot going to the Indo producer. On the other hand TV3 expect that all of their 15 submissions will get the go a head when only 7 or so are suitable, and that they will get 100% funding.

But yes it is true TG4 over the last 2 years have had around 35million for Irish productions, evenly divided between genre which is important.

I was very impressed with anJigGig that was on last night, even though I do not know a word of Irish. A bit of a take on Xfactor that actually concentrated on the dancers and their ability and not on the judges. They also selected the winner by two judges selecting their preferred choice and the third judge then selecting the one of those two acts thought best.

Brilliant. (By the way, the best dancers won.)
