Why is there 9 strings on the Harp on the Passport, 7 on the Harp for the Garda Siochana, 14 on old punt coins and notes, and 13 over the Four Courts and all Courts? Why arent they all the same? Any reason why they are different?

copyright or copy right related matters? modern design?http://flagspot.net/flags/ie.html

To deferentiate between the Presidential seal & coat of arms & standard flag from say the judiciary or the police -dept of justice to dept of foreign affairs for the passport (executive/legistators)? under separation of powers, as you know, they are not all the same. (someone like tom young or others would correct me/put it in better words)

Other groups use or used the harp e.g. NUI, GAA, RIC, RUC, Irish Brigades in the British Army, the Irish Free State, various Royal branches of the Monarchy and various British flags, our coinage, or various non government/corporations gropus like Guinness and Ryanair

A trip to the National Library and / or National Art musuem might be worth a trip to see the various designs and reasons for same and what the whole point of the great details on the harp and why they were there.look closer, particualrily the presidents symbols where the strings are silver in colour

Imagine all the headaches the government would go through on issues such as flags, crests, coat of arms seals etc should the island be united. Not just what particular symbol to be used but what why that agreed symbol should be designed

What better place to put it? Just interested to know why they have different strings because i always thought the correct number was 12 and i've been doing a bit of research on this guy Billy McGuire (link2) who is the president of the IRB (Irish Republican Brotherhood) and Sovereign Seal holder. Each year on the 21st of January he performs a ritual in the Mansion House to reassert the sovereignty of the people and to grant license to the courts, garda siochana and all the organs of the state. What do ye make of this? Here's his presentation (best viewed in Internet Explorer)
