Have been running for the last couple of years but havn't run since early summer and have done very little this year due to an illness in the family. As a result I feel unfit and have put on weight but am determined to get back to it again.I'm thinking of doing one of the 5k christmas runs coming up soon.Any thoughts on that?

Yeah go for it. There is a 5k race this Sunday in the Phoenix Park and teh following Sunday there is a 10 k in the park too. Remember take it handy starting off so you will not injure yourself.

Definitely give one of the Christmas runs a go, and maybe target a race in January too to help keep the motivation going? (The Raheny 5 at the end of January would be a good choice there)

It's nice out today, just go out and see how you feel, and plan from there. :)

Hi runner44, my suggestion is that you get back out there running straight away and make time for it - the feeling of wellbeing you will get will be of tremendous benefit to you and it will also give you much needed time to yourself. In a similar situation myself since end of summer and running has been invaluable in maintaining sanity.
    Go for it!

Thanks for the encouragement! I was just thinking today I might leave it until the new year but then I saw your posts and I think I'll do the 5k in Marley this Sunday - aaaaaagh! I know I'll feel good once I start back

I would usually do 5k in around 27/29 mins.I've never gone over 30mins.Hopefully it'll stay like that!

Yep do the marlay park one - always a nice atmosphere there - and relaxed too. You could run a 16 minute 5k or a 60 minute one, and you'd enjoy it just the same! Best of luck with the time - reckon you'll repeat your 27 minutes!
