Hi don't know if this is the right forum but I recently had a few virus' on this pc and I removed them but I think it's after deleting drivers for the wireless and ethernet. I tried to reinstall 'intel wireless pro 2200bg and it says it's installed but nothing changes. Please can someone help me :(

More than likely the virus has corrupted the TCP / IP stack.
you can try reseting it. Details here

If that doesnt work you cold try the SFC command.

Put your windows cd into the drive
Click Start then Run and type "CMD" without quotes then click Enter.
At the command prompt type "sfc /scannow" without quotes and click Enter.

If that doesn't work then I'd try a repair installation. Link

What exactly are the symptoms? What is wrong? Does your network card show up normally? We need more information

Basically theres a wireless button beside the power button that if you'd normally press would turn blue and would turn on the wireless...but wireless can't be turned on from anywhere nor can I use a wired connection..I went to device manager and it came up about a corrupted or missing driver code 39 for:

intel pro wireless 2200bg network connection,
intel pro wireless 2200bg network connection packet scheduler
    1394 net adapter
direct parallel, realtek rtl8139 family pci fast ethernet nic
realtek rtl8139 family pci fast ethernet nic packet scheduler miniport,
    wan miniport(IP)
wan miniport(IP) - packet scheduler miniport
    wan minport(L2TP)
    wan miniport(PPPOE)
    wan miniport(PPTP)

they all had a yellow mark next to them too

Have you tried removing all these and then re installing.

Yeah when I remove and try reinstall it says about the drivers being missing or corrupted and the code 39..also has said "Adapter state not found in registry"

If multiple apapters are not wokring then theres something seriously wrong with the OS.
I've seen it loads of times after a malware infection.

Sorry if I have missed it but what operating system do you have?
Would you consider upgrading it to windows 7?

It's xp home edition..well the pc isnt my own one I'd rather just be able to fix the wifi, that's all that's needed really

Hi I finally got a windows xp home edition with service pack 3 on it...so far its done repairing it and the wifi light is on..only thing is that it's asking for an activation key and when I type in the one thats underneath the laptop its telling me it's invalid so I can't log in..any idea what's wrong?
