I brought 50 litres of kerosene to a friend who was empty.I bled the system but it only fires for a second and cuts out.I can see a small flame for a second and there is a puff of black smoke from the flue.this is a new system installed last january.....I dont know if this burner is set up for kerosene or diesel.is there a difference?

will a diesel system burn kerosene?
how do i tell which fuel the system burns?

Sometimes there is a sticker on the tank saying Kerosene.

You will have a job at this stage to tell what was in it unless he has the docket from the last fill.

The boiler is set up with a different operating pressure for the two fuels, and generally a differnt nozzle is used too.

You might need to get a serviceman to get it to run properly.

A diesel burner would usually burn kero no problem, but a kero burner wont burn diesel. Its likely the 50 litres didnt fully cover the outlet pipe on the tank and the burner may be drawing some air.If possible lift the rear of the tank and bleed the burner again

the tank is lifted at the back so its getting fuel

If it's a new system that was only recenlty installed, it would more than likely be Kerosene if in an urban housing estate afaik.

As said diesel burner will burn kero ok, make sure there is fuel getting as far as the burner. Do not bleed the burner too much if it isnt getting fuel, repeated bleeding with no oil in the pump can cause it to sieze up.
