Vodafone mobile constant drop out.

    Apologies if this has been discussed before, I did do a quick search and didn't find this specific issue discussed.

    I currently have both a Vodafone mobile broadband and a Meteor broadband package. The meteor one has a much smaller ping (100ms) compared to the vodafones (400-4000ms) which is ridiculous. Also the vodafone connection just stops working literally every 10 minutes and I have to constantly disconnect and reconnect it the whole time. I haven't tested the speed but its clear from downloads etc that the meteor one is faster.

    If I run "ping google.ie -n 1000" from the command line, 30% of the time on vodafone I fail to get a response.

    Now I understand that meteor has been going for less time so it has less customers, but my modems are are both in exactly the same location and I suppose connect to the same tower (I might be wrong on this.)

    Does anyone else have these vodafone issues or does anyone know whats going on. The modems are both newer USB models.

    Sorry for the long post, but this is just pissing me off now. I've had the vodafone connection for over a year now, and until I got the meteor one a few months ago I assumed this was just normal mobile broadband behaviour. Vodafone support has been no help. Any tips? Thanks.

    iUseVi - This is very common with all midband products. If you read the other posts on Midband, you will recognise that Mobile "Broadband" is not comparable to real fixed line Broadband at all. Performance is totally dependent on the number of users, location etc.

    Regarding the better performance of Meteor vs Vodafone. There is another adjacent Midband post where this subject is debated. Meteor is showing the highest Average speed performance of the 4 networks on Speedtest.net. Your experience is therefore not likely to be unusual, although ranking at every specific location can be different.

    Different networks, different mast locations, different contention and capacity. You can't compare one with the other, and the fact that one works bares no relationship to another.

    Thanks for the responses so far. I understand it would be naive to directly compare the too networks.

    I really wouldn't care if vodafone is half or even a quarter of the speed of meteor. What bothers me is that the connection stops working altogether for long periods of time and I have to manually disconnect and reconnect.

    Any thoughts as to why would this be? I've tried connecting without the vodafone software but that doesn't seem to matter. Thanks again for the replies.

    same problems im having with the vodafone network software cuts out every few minutes when i t is connected the speeds are downright crap i emailed vodafone and asked to cancel my contract even tough ive had it over a month i am simply not paying them for a service this bad:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:
