Can anybody confirm that an iPhone from Australia can be operated over here on any network?
iPhone 3G & iPhone 3GS purchased at the Apple Online Store can be activated with any wireless carrier. Simply insert the SIM from your current phone into iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS and connect to
iTunes 8.2 to complete activation.2 Purchase limitations may apply.

may have the chance of a friend picking one up for me if i want.

    thanks.

is it unlocked? if not, it works out at 630 euro for the 32gb 3gs when you could get one here in Ireland for 609 euro

    Kc,
I am typing this from my 32gb that I got from Australia.
They sell factory unlocked phones , which means you can put any sim card in them .Also never have to worry about the phone locking after an update via iTunes.
I am using my vodafone sim in mine, you simply pop your sim in and away you go.
The price is 30euro more but your resale value is great due to it been factory unlocked.
You will not need to jailbreak the phone to use on other networks , but if you do want to jailbreak for other reasons , then you will more than likely have a newly made phone which will need to be tethered to your p.c everytime it's switched off , to maintain the jb.
That's for another day , if you get the phone and wanna jailbreak ? then drop me a message and I will help.

    M.

P.s . One potential downside is that in case of you having a problem , you may need to send it back to Aus. The warrenty is only valid in country of purchase. I have never tried but someone did say they fought thus and Apple ireland sorted things out. Yet to be confirmed but!

thats the question i'm asking. the website says its factory unlocked as Australia have the law that stops phones being restricted to networks AFAIK.

if i buy the one in Ireland for a little cheaper, i am locked to O2 which i dont want and i dont want to jail break either. i want to buy a factory unlocked one so i have no issues with upgrades etc etc

Without hijacking this thread I'd love to know if Apple Ireland actually did that. I've a factory unlocked Italian 3gs and am a little worried in case anything ever happens to my iPhone... It's the only real draw back to buying overseas. Where did you hear about Apple Ireland fixing a none Irish iPhone?

    what does this mean?
and how long did it take for the iPhone to be delivered to you?

Ive gotta a 32gb 3gs from Aus and its working no worries. Im with vodafone and have had no probs. Was using wifi up to now and have just started with data download from vodafone and no probs there either.

If you're worried about warranty just get vodafone insurance for 6.99 a month and if anything happens your phone you can just get a new one(within reason) Vodafone will be covering iphones in Jan which you are no doubt aware. Happy daze.
