Hi have purchased a remington 700 bdl in .17 remington, just waiting for licence to be changed over. Would like to get your opinions on this caliber as regards use on foxes and also accuracy wise. Have used most calibers from .22lr to 243 foxing but the .17 rem is caliber have overlooked up to now

We used to use the .17 rem for about 2 years it was a remmy 700 bdl aswell, its a serious killing round on a fox and pretty safe too because the little 24grain bullet explodes inside the fox 90% of the time,we had loads of instant kills without so much as a twitch out of the fox.
It is very fussy round if the barrel aint nice and clean my friends used to group all over the shop if it was not clean-he used to have to clean it every 20 rounds.
Also wind can affect it fairly bad beyond 100yards and the bullet does loose energy rapidly after 200yrds.

Heard it needs regular cleaning alright wont be runnig that many through it on a night lamping so hopefully it wont affect it too much. Am lookin forward to tryin the caliber and seeing the results for foxing. Have a 250 aswell and thats distructive to say the least:D

the 17 remmy is used quite a bit in australia cos its easy on the pelts, its a good fox round , accurate, and if you clean after 20 shots it will serve you well for the irish fox scene.
