Well it has started. Went down on some black ice on a ride today. Couldn't even see the stuff when I was stopped and standing upright. Someone else went down about 10m up the road while coming down the hill too.

Top of stocking lane and anywhere with a bit of Sun shine was mostly clear however. You could see the patches of ice around there so easy to avoid.

    Nasty. You OK?

Our club spin today consisted of circuits of Phoenix Park. I was tempted by Wicklow, but remembered my scrapes from this time last year and decided to listen to the voices of experience instead.

Yeh thanks. I was going up the hill so only about 10km/h at the time. Guy coming down was very luckly as he was slowing to a stop as he thought I had a puncture. Could have been very messy had he been going at speed.

Anyone know if 3Rock gets affected by ice much?

    D'oh, hope no bad bruising.

Not the remotest sign of ice out the North County today.

ouch - i hate that feeling of the back wheel slipping going uphill! i'm gonna try and avoid my normal hilly routes around sallygap etc for most of the winter for this reason. a fall could easily result in something like a broken collar bone or worse, and that would mean no swimming, biking or running for weeks.

I was out on the back roads from around Clonsilla and Luttrelstown across towards Confey and didn't encounter any ice (apart from the bits where my fingers used to be...).

By Jesus wasnt it cold today.??? went down Blessington way and was cautious as you could see the shine in places but I think most of it was from the dew and fog and the roads were just wet as opposed to icy.
Came by the rowing club just there at the lakes and pulled up for a few mins to have a gander...... I though I was taking the cold bad but Im tellin ya you wanna see the faces of those guys gettin out of the boats at the lake side......they were in pain and the funniest thing was they all got out wearing flip flops..... Had a little chuckle and proceeded about my business.....

Question: In light of the adverse cold would anyone wearing shorts today be considered a FRED ?.... or just Stone Crazy

They'd be in the state of not realising how you can do damage to yourself by not covering your knees, a beginner maybe, years ago when I didn't know this I used go out in -2C in my shorts. Not a great idea.

I passed someone on the N11 earlier in shorts & short sleeves!

Passed a guy in shorts near Brittas this morning. Was wondering if he'd been vaccinated against arthritis.

The reason I asked was because I seen 3 dudes in shorts today...... in fairness did look a bit noobie to be honest

It felt slightly warm in Wicklow today. Was above all the mist. Even the decent on stocking lane was warmer than the last few km returning home.

Perhaps, but at least he's avoiding the ghey by not wearing tights.
