Do they charge to stow a bike in the storage hold? I need to bring an old bike down to my bro. I was thinking of taking off the front wheel and handlebars and wrapping it in a cheap ourdoor cover during transport.

    Cheers for the info folks

Yes they do charge, it's also at the drivers discression wether or not to take the bike. I think it's a €5 set charge per journey.

They'll store it whole. But only if there's room (so pick a quite service) and its expensive enough €10.

It's not too bad as you're going one way. I did the tour of Kildare there during the summer and paid for bike and myself. Got up there no problem but Kilkenny were playing in Croker so all the buses on the way back were full :( I had to go to Dublin and party for the night with my mates :) Got the train back the following day and the whole thing cost me an extra €100 (€200 including booze etc)

You could make a cardboard "suitcase" and put the partly dismantled bike in it. I don't think they can charge for or refuse to take a suitcase of any size. Anyone regularly taking a bike on the bus could make a cheap plywood jobby. Can't see a flaw in this brilliant plan.:)

Feckers should be forced to take bikes anyway. I am going to email Trevor Green Party guy and get it sorted out immediately.(I don't think).;)

Friend of mine leaves the front mudguard off his tourer so that he can make as small a package of the bike as possible when he removes the front wheel. Tapes up the bike into a garbage bag and brings it on to trains as a package. I guess there's no reason you can't do same with buses. The trick is not to make it clear in any way that it's a bike, so I guess you do all the dismantling, handlebar reorientating, wrapping, etc. out of eyesight of the employees of Bus Eireann.

What they mean is that intercity services can carry either 3 or 6 bikes, depending on configuration.
