Physically attacked.......what now?

    Hi
I was jumped on by 3 lads last month, got a few punches to the head and a few kicks but thankfully I wasnt hurt at all really. It was over in a few seconds, they jumped me, thump thump kick kick, then they ran off. Like I said I wasnt physically hurt but it was a bit of a shock. You just expect this kind of thing to happen to you in broad daylight. Im still pretty angry about it, I am a man and we have sensitive egos as you know:). The unfairness of it all is what bothers me most, one on one Id have kicked the s h i t out of any of them. The concept of a fair fight doesnt exist I suppose. They were cowards, only brave in a group.

Anyway I found out the name and address of one of them. I called the Gardai and they said theyd call me back. But they havent. Plus the Garda I spoke to on the phone didnt even ask for the name and address that I had in my possession. I was going to go down to the Garga station tomorrow in person and give them the name and address.
    My question is this:
What happens next? Will there be a line-up and I'll have to indetify my attackers? And then what, a court case? Will I need a lawyer? Will it be expensive? Is it even worth the hassle, should I just forget about it?
    Thanks

What happens now is the Gardai will take the details, say they'll 'look into it' and do nothing. They don't give a fcuk!

As you walked away unscathed I think this will end up low on the Garda list.
The guy that attacked you is probably known.
I assume now you are located in Scumbag heaven (Dublin)?

Gardai will take the details -

(maybe) check local CCTV to see if accused was in the general area or even if there is any CCTV of the assault.

Then they will goto the address and ask him if he did it or not - if he denies it they can produce CCTV and show him he has just lied or just say .... thanks for yer time and leave him go.

in the event that he is on CCTV , a file will be sent to the DPP - and they will decide if there is enough evidence to charge him - if so - the matter should be before the courts in about 12months.

You seem to know your stuff PCPhoto so is it even worth bothering about?

are they known to you or was it a completely random attack?
easy for me to say but l'd be tempted to give it back to them one by one.
what age group are we talking about here?
you have an address, is it worth knocking on the door and speaking to the parents? (depending on the attackers age)

......or you could just put dogsh1t through their letterbox!.....;)

The gardai will take this as seriously as you take it yourself. Get yourself down to the police station, give your details and the information you have to them. You'll be asked to provide a statement. Do this. After a couple of weeks follow up with the gard you provide the statement to.

Basically, as no major injury was suffered, thankfully, if you decide to take it easy on this one, or let it slide, no one will be bothered to try and make you push it forward. If however you insist you want to have him prosecuted, then presuming you have the right suspect identified there will be a prosecution. That will be your word against your attacker's word in court, with the charge being s.2 non-fatal offences against the person act 1997.

Be prepare for your attacker to allege that you were the aggressor which could well result in you both being charged, there being no independent witnesses.

As already said, a time frame of about 12 months for it to enter the court system is pretty much on the money.
