If you hate him, what exactly is it that makes him a "legend"? Just waiting for someone to come along and say "If Michael O'Leary was in charge of the country.." etc

    Two reasons, in particular:

His idiosyncratic, and invariably entertaining, grasp of the English language.

His ability to be a man-eating tiger on Morning Ireland at 7.05am any morning of any week when most people are just stumbling out of bed/into work - where is the man's Achilles' heel?

His politics - e.g. Charlie McCreevy was the best Minister for Finance ... - is repellant.

The bold Michael gets away with murder . He said you could fly from SNN to wherever for 6 euro taxs and charges included . I would be 99% certain that is untrue and this fare never excisted .Did Marion really challenge him not at all .
He said the Spanish love him and bend over backwards to help him .
He has pulled out of Valencia airport over charges Again was he challenged or questioned on this.
A value of his worth is the share price of his company which has gone from over 7 euro to 2.85

Yet his profits of €387m for the six months to September 2009 were an 80% increase on the year before while most other major airlines are reporting losses.

Also, haven't their shares split a few tomes since they were 7 each?

He also mentioned that they were planning to intoduce a 'pre-paid' Mastercard as a way of avoiding paying credit card charges, does anyone know what this is all about?

Is there any way to listen to the show later on? I had a quick look on the rte website but can't find anything

Payzone are doing this already through mastercard - I don't know if one of these will allow you to dodge his extra charges though, I'll be interested to see what he does on this issue

I imagine it will be an Electron credit card like that already available through Entropay.

No, electron is same is Laser really, when I had Electron years ago it was denied in a load of places outside France. There is a prepaid Visa card already out or check out 3V.

I'll grant you - he does have an entertaining turn of phrase now and then. Have to say though that I can't get past his politics, and people attach way too much importance to his every utterance.

Yes he did split them once when they were 8 euro somthing to a value of €5.50 .which was not quiet 2/1 .They are still worth less than half what they were worth 3 years ago even taking the split into account.

The reason his profits were up 80% was that he hedged his oil at the top of the market at 140 a barrell despite oil falling to below 50 for most of the year . He is now hedged at around 80 euro

I wont even go there on his attempt to Buy E.I at 3 euro a share.

I personally think he is not the Demi God that people make him out to be and It really pisses me The way he can get away with making the most amazing claims unchallenged as happened with his hour long dictate this morning

Can't be any worse than 90% of the Dail then.

Give me O'leary in the Dail ahead of Frank Fahey, Martin Cullen, O'Dea or any of the other Gombeen inhabitants.

The one reason I can't abide listening to him rabbit on about politics is because his political hero is the corrupt Haughey.

The bloke would lick out a toilet bowl for profit. Fair enough, but I'm sick of hearing his consistent jackass braying being passed off as anything other than publicity-seeking. It's been said before but Ryanair do well despite most of his outbursts, not because of them.

I definitely disagree with that. His constant outbursts get him into the news, and so gets Ryanair into the news. The only negative publicity that Ryanair could get is from a serious crash or something like that. Besides that, any other publicity just reminds people that Ryanair are around and gets it into peoples' heads that they are the cheapest around too.

I'd guess that the majority of people who are looking to book flights to somewhere in Europe will almost always check the Ryanair website first. Not necessarily because they do genuinely believe that Ryanair are the cheapest, but because they instantly associate Ryanair with flights because of all the publicity surrounding Ryanair in contrast to the little or no publicity surrounding Aer Lingues or British Airways besides cut backs and staff layoffs.

It's easy for some uninvolved multi-millionaire to criticize how things are done

if anything he says was worth a fcuk he'd become a politician and try to do something about it, but no he's happy enough to take any opportunity he gets to vomit out his own agendas and **** his own ego, the pompous prick

I honestly think even the majority of people who admire MOL cringe at half the stuff he comes out with.

Ryanair is a overwhelming success because it offers a cheap product that a large amount of people want. I doubt that the publicity comes into it at this stage. Perhaps in the early days, not now imo.

The whole reason behind his, and Ryanair's, success is his eye for cutting un-necessary costs. That's what the Government needs.

O'Leary is an interesting character really isn't he ?
See my theory is that he's the guy who says and does stuff the rest of us only mouth off about. So we in equal parts love him and hate him for that. I mean what if anything somes the man's philosophy up - I think it would have to be the phrase "**** the begrudgers". Most of those in this country whine and moan and bitch - but ultimately for the vast majority of us its just bluff and we don't actually do anything about it. O'Leary is that most unusual of creatures - an Irishman who does more than just complain and moan and is actually prepared to put his money where his mouth is.

This is the same Charlie who's idea it was to decentralise the Civil Service all over the country.

Just so we all know it is costing at least a billion euro to do this and they reckon in 20 or 30 years they might break even.

    Yeah great minister for finance.

As for MOL I understand the other politician he admired was Charles J. Haughty.

For the same reason why we fools trust the 166 TDs that get airtime and also unelected persons such as Dan Boyle, Mary Lou McDonald, Eoghan Harris; do I need to go on?

At least when he speaks he has basically only one agenda (Ryanair); while those in the Dail, the majority of the Seanad, and others that get airtime; have the interests of banks, property developers, businessmen, criminals, etc. on their agenda.
