I can't understand how a crack pot like Mary Doherty warrants an appearance on the Pat Kenny Show. It contributes nothing to real issues. Sometimes I think Kenny does it just for its scare value. Mind you listening to Gilligan certainly showed up Doherty for the fascist she is.

Really hated listenin to that. He was so biased. He called up Gilligan on subjective statements (like constitutional interpretation of marriage), but let that Doherty freak get away with ridiculous ones like "We're not a minority. We have been silenced" when any recent reputable opinion poll quite clearly disproves that. Does she wish to suggest that "they" were silenced to the extent that they were unable to answer opinion polls correctly?

I am old enough to remember when Mary kennedy used to way lyrical under her banner of the "Irish Family League". The best thing to do with people like that is to let them speak up and make fools of themselves, as MAry Doherty did on the show, which I heard in the car.

Rejoice that these people no longer hold sway in Ireland, and laugh at them with their hate and spite wrapped up in the blanket of the discredited catholic church.

Well said Consider This. Give bigotry a stage and let it make a show of itself. She did nothing to further her cause, and as always Ann Louise was calm and insightful.

I know she made a joke of herself, but the fact that Kenny didn't point it out was what annoyed me. He didn't hesitate to challenge Gilligan. He wasn't aggressive about it but the fact that it was so one-sided annoyed me, whether Doherty needed any help making a fool of herself or not.

Like even arguments used commonly like "the good of society". Is it not an obvious question to ask: "What exactly do you mean by that?". Because things like that are used so often and the thing is, you can't argue against them, because they're far too vague (so you need an expansion)

All he needed to do was to ask her what that means and what evidence there is to support it. If she quotes the bible then he needs to follow up by asking on what grounds this should apply to non-Christians. Simple.

He didn't and most others don't either, simple as that.

Giving these people a platform is only encouraging them as they are already increasingly emboldened by their successes in the US over Prop 8 and other anti-gay measures.

Marxist-feminist ideologies by the way, don't propose marriage rights for gays anyway. Its not about ideology anyway, its about giving people enhanced rights in certain contexts. I found it incredible that he allowed her to blather on about children and contraception without interrupting her once.

Agree completely with shoegirl. We may be intelligent/sharp enough to see the ridiculous flaws in her argument, and even grammar, but no one should EVER take it for granted. Not everyone will - some people need it pointed out to them.

Most of you would agree there is no reasonable justification for something like Prop. 8 to succeed, because most of the arguments are fallacious, but yet it does anyway.

Why? Because people are idiots. Never forget it
