You'll find a lot of online stores will be selling for almost the exact same price as the apple store, this is common with most apple products.

Just make sure its the second version of the aluminium shell with SD card reader and firewire. The 13" 1st gen version didn't have either.

bought mine in Dixons Tax Free in Heathrow, they have a web site where you can order can collect. At the time (about 4 months ago) it was the cheapest I could find. If you know someone flying in the UK they could pick it up for you??
I got the 13" MBP with 4GB and 250GB HD (higher spec model) for £999

They are all shipping with 10.5 only so you would need to get hold of Snow Leopard for them to be fully updated.

I got it off the Apple website in the end.

I couldn't live with a 160gb hard drive - had to upgrade it to 250. I could only do this if I ordered off Apple. Cost me 1070

I know I prob could have got that done in some repair shop somewhere but tbh I just didn't want the hassle. Wanna be able to use this straight out of the box.

Will definitely upgrade to 4gb ram somewhere down the line though - is that an expensive/worthwhile process??

2gb memory is plenty for most uses. The main reason you might go for 4gb of memory is if you wanted to regularly run a virtual machine on your mac, or any memory intensive application.

The link says 10.5; are they shipping with 10.6 for sure?

Cant say for sure as the tech spec lists it as 10.6 and product summary says 10.5

Did you end up ordering from laptops direct???? I am looking at getting a mac and its a great price but I have heard bad things about laptops direct.

Yeah ordered on Friday 27th for the other half. Wanted to hold off and see if Apples black Friday sale prices were any better than laptopsdirect.

Got a phone call later that day on Friday to say the payment went through sucessfully. Laptop arrive yesterday with snow leppord (os x v10.6) and ilife09. The total cost was €981. Still cheaper than apples sale.

I had no problems with laptops direct. That was my first oder with them.

Sounds good, and quick delivery. How are there prices so much cheaper than apples site, €274 in the difference on the model I want.

If theres that much in the difference its a no brainer. Ive seem mixed reports about laptopsdirect. Mainly regarding payment issues. Just make sure your billing address and your delivery address is the same and you should have no issues.
