The last few mornings have been quite cold where Im living,
2 degress celcius according to the outside temperature sensor clock. When I start the car it usually takes 3-5secs before it starts. Before It would start the minute I would turn the key. Is the cold weather the cause of this or what? If I start car any other time of the day after this its starts straight away. What is up with it you reckon? What can I do to improve matters?

The car is a 1.9 tdi passat 2000.

    Cheers.

    Battery.

Assuming its the original factory fit (Moll), they tend to get tired after nine - ten years.

Make sure you get the proper replacement (UK ref 110, 80AH 640CCA) don't get fobbed off with a 096 (smaller) cobbled into the carrier. If you plan on keeping the car get a decent battery for it. Cheep & cheerful invariably end in tears.

Expect to spend ~ 95 ish plus VAT for Moll/OE replacement

    Cheers

    Glow plugs most likely.
If its turning over particularily slowly, the battery could be on the way out too.

You may as well if you are going to the trouble of locating one..they're not that expensive..spend the few quid on the motor and she'll hopefully look after you!!:D

I agree, you never hear of anyone replacing just one spark plug in a petrol. Its false economy to just change one glow plug.Another one could fail next week ;)
