Will moving cause my payments to be stopped..?

I finally got my Jobseekers Allowance payment through the start of this month. Thank God. Now, here's the situation. I'm currently living at home with my Father and Sister, my brothers are fostered since a year after my mother passed away in 2006. There's an immense amount of tension and it's come to a final boil, so I need to move.

Me and a friend (also on JA) were given a loan by my aunt for a deposit on a 1 bed flat in Glasnevin. Now, here's the thing we're absolutely terrified of. The flat is 650 p/m, so we'd hope to be able to apply for Rent Assistance in the future. We know if we move, we have to inform the Social Welfare of this, but we're absolutely terrified of this because we were told it's possible they'll stop our payments to 're-assess' us? If that were to happen (bear in mind I've waited from June - November for my payment) we wouldn't be able to keep rent payments up whatsoever and would lose the apartment. Is this true? Or is it a simple matter of informing them I've moved...?

I'd REALLY appreciate any information on this. We're due to move by Tuesday and there is no real option of staying in my current situation..

    Thanks..

    Marc.

Depends if you will be signing on in the same dole office as before. Otherwise your payment will be stopped until you get your claim transferred to the new dole office. The first dole office will have to send your claim to the new one. You call into the new dole office with your passport and complete a short form. Then they request your old file - might take a week or two.

Thank you for the reply! That's calmed me down alot. So would it be ok to wait for it to come through in the new area + be backdated, or should we go down to the Health Centre to tide over in the mean time? Thanks again for the help, really appreciate it!

If you're looking for rent assistance head to the Health Board straight away. Dont think they'll pay your dole while you wait for the claim transfer as it should only take a few days but with the current backlogs it could take longer.
