Was flicking through the free-ads on last Tuesdays Cork evening Echo (pink pages) and there was a big half page ad for a main VW dealer in North Cork and Cork City.

They were offering to beat any price on a new VW brought in from the North or UK with certain conditions.

One of these conditions was quote "conversion of speedometer from miles to kilometers (legal requirement)"

Now, this is the first time i've ever heard anything about this "requirement" and as far as i'm concerned, they're talking out of their you-know-whats!! They have this ad and are trying to get around matching a price by including this expensive (and not required) change to the spec. From experience, for example it once cost me €1100 +vat to change the clocks over on a Range Rover for a customer (i know theres a big difference between a Range Rover and a Polo)

Just annoyed me that they using misleading advertising when garages these days need to do everything possible to prevent their businesses being harmed.

Sorry, Didnt intend this to be a rant but it just turned into one.:p

Remember the debacle with a Toyota dealership and their statements about the new Avensis's rough road package.

One dealer speaking before he thinks.

Complete bull. (i). It's not a requirement to have a KM speedo. (ii). UK cars always have them anyway inside the MPH.

Its a legal requirement to have a Klm speedo, but even the UK imports have them i.e. duel Miles/Klms, that is sufficient
