Rent allowance help

I've been living in rented accomodation for almost six months now. I have few queries about rent allowance that can't find the answers to, so all advice would be gratefully appreciated.

    1. Should I make my application for rent allowance in advance of the six month period or is it back-paid?

    2. I heard that the Community Welfare Officer visits you at your house to confirm your living arrangements when you are making your application at the start - do they give a specific date and time for this visit or is it just a case of expect them when you see them?

    3. Following the initial application, how often does the Community Welfare Officer visit you at your home? Also do they give you a time and date for these follow-up visits or is it again that they knock on your door whenever?

    4. How often is the payment made and in what form do you receive the payment (via post/post office/bank account?)?

Thanks for all your help :)

    1. make your application now, whether or not it will be back paid is a matter for the community welfare officer.

    2. they'll tell you what day they are going to visit.

    3. they've never visited me again in the 6 months i've been in receipt of it. though i'd imagine they'd call otherwise they'd just be wasting their time if i wasn't home.

    4. payments are made every week in the form of a cheque posted to your address.

We got ours backdated from the date filled filled out the form. It took 2 months for the whole process for us, but the CWO was out for some of that time and we were given false information which delayed us also.

Also our rent allowance is paid into the post office every thursday. We collect it with the same card as dole card. Both are there on thursday.
