Punch-out

    Hi all.

I bought a second hand copy of punch-out earlier this week and when I got it home it did not work. Screen told me an error had occurred and to shut down the wii.

I went to game today to change it. They had no second hand copies left so I bought a new copy. I brought it home put in in the wii and got exactly the same screen saying an error had occurred!

I tried some other games and they all played fine. Do I need a firmware download or something to get this game going? I find the whole thing baffling at this stage.

Thanks for any suggestions in advance.

Punch-out is one of those games that forces an update. At a guess, you have PreLoader installed and you've disabled the "force update" ability to prevent games making you update the firmware. And PunchOut is looking for an IOS you don't have. Probably something to do with Balance Board support... Anyway, if you have a soft-hacked or chipped Wii you don't need me to tell you how to resolve that. If your Wii isn't chipped / hacked / modded in anyway, try updating it in case an IOS has somehow become corrupted..?

I'd love to know what that meant! :)

It's a completely unmodified wii so I'll try the update and see what happens. Cheers man.

Updated the wii to no avail. I'm totally stumped

Is it the error you get when it can't read the disc? I used to get something like that on Guitar Hero 3. Does the Wii make a lot of spin-up noises and then go very quiet before giving you the error? Also, do you have any games like rockband/guitar hero and if so do they stutter a lot or go out of synch? If so, could just be the DVD drive needs cleaning and it's having trouble reading that disc. Do all your other games work first time every time?

If it *does* need cleaning, I think Nintendo do a lens cleaning disc but I've never seen it in the shops over here.

(Obviously I'm making a lot of guesses here, for god's sake don't spend any money on anything as a result of anything I say!)

Can you give a blow-by-blow account of what happens from when you insert the disc? Y'know, any noises you hear, what you see on screen, anything out of the ordinary and for that matter anything that happens exactly the way you expected it to?
