Seeing as its quiet here today and being inspired by the paint job on fixie's fixie I'll throw this out.

I'll be home spraying a hack bike frame in a few weeks,Just wondering if people can recommend any make of paint and where to get it, ie halfords etc... I'm thinking of spraying it a type of celeste and naming her the 'biach';)

Nitromors from a hardware shop to strip the old paint job off. Paintbrush, and toothbrush to get the hard little corners.

Primers from Halfords. Depending on what colour you're doing, they sell white, grey, red and black primers, IIRC.

Your paints could come from Halfords too, but All City Records in Temple Bar sells cheaper cans (5 euro as opposed to 8 euro).

Lacquer to seal the deal you can get from Halfords.

Read PhatYack's guide in this thread on the fixed gear forum to get a nice finish. But I'd avoid the wet sanding, just lightly scuff again with the steel wool to get rid of the gloss finish to put on the lacquer (worked for me).

Nice one flickerx, cheers for that. Halfords paint is good enough quality so.

What would you reckon about a wire brush, on a drill... Would it be too heavy for the frame or would it be ok? I'm handy enough with my hands and have sanded down before but never a bike frame.

I wouldn't be using a drill/brush with Nitromors around - evil stuff will get everywhere and blind you!
Best to go gentle with the toothbrush etc...

How much of all this would one need to strip, primer, paint and seal a bike frame?
    ie 1xnitro; 1xprimer; 2xpaint; 1xseal???

(I hope to be doing another frame before the spring so I can err on the side off too much product.)

    Hey all,
I'm preparing to begin the respray. colour picked, mixed and bought. The only problem is that I will be putting text on the frame and have no idea how to do it... Have people done this before and if so how?

My options are decals or paint.

    Decals:
    Do home worked decals work?
Anyone know where I can get a decal alphabet?

    Paint:

Paint on the text after the spray: This sounds like trouble to me, I'd probably have to get someone to do it for me which kinda misses the point of doing the restoration myself

Template: Affix a text template onto the frame before the paint is sprayed on and then remove before the lacquer is applied thus exposing the undercoat as text.

What do people think of these options? am I missing another method? Any input is appreciated.

    Cheers

on the decals you might try here. as i understand from their ad they do several colours of each and they just stick onto an already painted bike. downside to this is i think you either get it straight first time or your f**ked as they're very sticky.

Cheers, I'll have a look @ them, thanks abcdggs
