Binocular for me, should really be coming here as Champion Hurdler and a year older now im sure connections will have him proimed( big bonus on offer)

Cappa Bleu e/w in the hennessey also receiving the guts of two stone from Denman and very impressive winner at the festival last year

    Binocular from Go Native imo

Denman to smash em in the HGC

Solwit, should be fav here, run this year huge advantage.

My Will, 28/1 ew, im finding it difficult to knock him out of the places 5th last year, overpriced in comparison to barbershop. Love to find one of the bookies doing 12345 at 25/1..

I would love you to be right about Denman. A repeat performance of 2007 where he destroyed them from the front and never got of the bridle! Carrying 13lbs extra this year, I think he will need to do it from the front again and try to break them. He can't let it develop into a sprint.

Binocular for the Fighting Fifth. I was impressed with Solwhit in the Morgiana, but Binocular, as many have said, should really be the Champion Hurdler. He flew up that hill, which suggests he has no stamina worries and heavy ground won't effect him too much.

Denman in the HGC & Go Native in the Fifth

Denman racing off 174 tomorrow (i think). He's capable of low to mid 180's if PN is right and he has the bit between his teeth again. He's plenty in hand of these. Forget the numbers though. 2 out if he's in contention he'll grind the rest into submission.

Wouldn't be quick to dismiss Solwhit but its Binocular for me in the FF.

    Evan Williams on Capa Bleu
"He's a very exciting horse, a very imposing individual and a classic chaser who wants a massive, galloping track and three miles plus," Williams said yesterday. "He's a big, raw-boned horse. He's attractive but he's got that old-fashioned steeplechaser's look about him.

"I can't over-emphasise how well the preparation has gone for both of my horses. I'm very, very happy with how both of them have got to the race but, as far as looking past Saturday, it would be very naive to start talking about things like the Gold Cup at this stage. There's a massive difference between the Hennessy and Cheltenham and so far there's been nothing else on my mind apart from Saturday."

The Hennessy card shows just how much improvement Cappa Bleu might need to find to compete in the Festival's premier event, as Denman, the 2008 Gold Cup winner, will carry top weight, giving Cappa Bleu no less than 26lb.

But Saturday will be only his third start under Rules, following a third-place finish when 5-4 favourite for a 2½-mile handicap at Aintree, a track and trip that did not play to his strengths.

Your pissing in the kitchen. Find the toilet, we have to eat in here!

Solwhit at the prices and for the run but would have preferred more rain.

Nenuphar Collonges Ante-Post and An Accordian for the Pipe yard who do well in this race with Martin winning it 3 times and David successful last year.

It won't affect him at all because the ground us Good to Soft Good in places. Perfect jumping ground and brings Go Native into it imo, will be the last one off the bridle just depends can he see it out. Still Binocular looks a cut above.

Are you joking, wanna have a side bet Go Native comes off the bridle before Binocular??

Solwhit at Newcastle and Killyglen at Newbury, but I think if Denman is close to his best he'll burn them off as his rating of 174 is at least 10lbs lower than he is capable of running to.

Really pleased for the horse that he won - it was a tough ask for him with the weights. Hopefully it won't have taken too much out of him and impact on the rest of his season.

Ya a small each way bet on Go Native

Probably wont beat those (Binocular or Solwhit) flat out round prestbury park but today was a good day and i think Celestial Halo is the best bet for the Champion Hurdle, 8/1 is free each way money

    So what?
    Whats funny about it?

Perhaps you can explain your thought process as to why you backed him today.

Ah to be fair it's a typical shop punter reaction; back a horse who beats a fancied favourite and suddenly nothing can stop him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,579 ✭✭✭prettyboy81

why explain myself.....why did u dismiss Go Native's chances??? a shop punter usually sides with the favourite & I wish nothing could stop me only two winners today were Go Native & Denman ;)

Those are two fair questions; who wants to go first?

I dont think you can explain yourself because you havent a clue why you backed him, feel free to prove me wrong.

I dismissed him because he had a stone to find with the top 2 and there was no reason why he should finish ahead of them but as usual over the past 4-5 years 2 mile hurdle form goes out the window after every race it seems due to one reason or another.

Fair play for a lovely winning bet but I'm sure all the exclamation marks aren't necessary.

Many a horse is seemingly on the bridle under Carberry and many times they have nothing left to give, or don't give any more depending on your viewpoint. One thing is for sure: when I back anything ridden by Paul Carberry I never allow myself to think the horse has won until they are past the finish line, no matter how easily they are travelling and how confident he looks.:)

Not wishing to be too smart but if it is as usual as you say that form is almost meaningless in 2 mile hurdles in recent years isn't it going against that to dismiss a horse's chance despite having something to find with the supposed principals. In fact it almost makes more sense in that case to forget about ratings entirely and just go with your gut instinct or love of pulling off a big price wager.

Note: I am pretty much a believer in form myself and would usually only back a horse for non form related reasons if I developed one of those ridiculous sentimental attachments to a particular horse which thankfully doesn't happy too often.

Ha yes, yes it is, that is why i probably wont be backing in a 2 mile hurdle race till the festival where i will most likely back Binocular because hopefully he'll put it together at the right time and show what hes made of.

Shan75, i agree with your point about p carberry & they way he rides his horses, he fancies himself as the new lester piggot just trying to get the horse to do enough to win by a nose, etc.

Why i choose Go Native yesterday was that it was noticeable with such a small field & a number of horses in it who like to strike coming through the field, Sublimity, Solwhit, Binocular, etc that It was never going to be a a fast 2 mile race but a sprint to the finish.

The only horse to demolish Go Native was Hurricane Fly last Christmas & he was a Grade 3 flat horse in France. Obviously his speed was franked by Solwhit a few weeks earlier but that wasn't a in my opinion a 100% Hurricane Fly, as he showed no turn of gears when he came off the bridle that day.

So I went with Go Native who I felt could travel the most of the race on the bridle & be given a chance to strike, as with him been a younger horse would still have the speed to take on more experienced horses & showed he has what it takes at Cheltenhem earlier in the year when powering up the hill....

You realise Binocular and Solwhit are both younger than Go Native right.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,579 ✭✭✭prettyboy81

I do but younger in experience compared to binocular & solwhit....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,286 ✭✭✭✭mdwexford

Just had to check because i knew Binocular hadnt had many runs.

    Binocular - 8
    Solwhit - 9 (Plus 1 in France)
    Go Native - 10

Are the amount of races over hurdles, they all should be open to a fair bit of improvement being only 5, 5 and 6.
