    Hi folks

I'm a PS3 and Xbox gamer but have bought my missus a Wii (and Wii Fit) for Christmas.

Are there any stand out must have games that anybody can recommend?

Not just for her but for my 10 year old son also.

Thanks for any suggestions you may have.

Say to this every noobie (because I want another sequel dammitt:D)
    Boom Blox Bash Party.

    Now for the regulars.
New Super Mario Bros. (Haven't play this yet, waiting until XMAS)
    Metroid Prime Trilogy.
Call of Duty Modern Warfare (Assuming You don't have it for PS3/360)
    Super Mario Galaxy.
Legend of Zelda : Twilight Princess.
    Dead Space : Extraction.
    Mario Strikers Charged.
    Pro Evolution Soccer.
    Mario Kart.
    Tiger Woods PGA 2010.
    Grand Slam Tennis.
Wii Sports Resort with Wii Motion Plus (Not sure if this is bundled with Wii )
    Wii Sports.
    Little Kings Story.

What kinda games are looking for?
It would help us to narrow the list.
As Contrary to popular myth the Wii does have some great little gems with it.:)

Thanks guys, that's perfect to get us off the ground.

Res 4 was a definite anyway!

I kind of fancy the idea of swinging the controller like a sword, any good games of that ilk? Or where you point it at the screen and shoot. Is House of the Dead any use?

(It really is for the wife by the way!)

I have COD4 already but does the Wii version play differently? Like do you use the motion function on the controller or is just the d-pad etc?

Thanks again for all the info.

New game coming out soon called Red Steel 2. You'll need the motion plus attachment tho.

Another thing - buy a wii component cable from ebay (about €5 delivered) if your tv will take it. Makes the display look a fair bit better.#

+1 on resi 4 - it's great on the Wii. It's point and shoot like you want.

Shooting games - "Dead Space Extraction" and the 2 resi evil on rails shooters are also good - umbrella chronicles and another new one out too.

    Zelda Twillight is excellent too.

    Also the Metroid Prime Trilogy.

It plays differently, but it's the exact same game bar stripped down graphics and sound. Not worth it if you own it already.
Get Metroid Prime Trilogy (3 Superb Games in one) instead.
Or House of Dead Overkill, or Dead Space or RE:Umbrella Chronicles if you're into rail gun games.

It looks like Metroid Prime Trilogy and Dead Space are sure certs for starters.

Can ye tell me what the motion plus attachment is about?

Does it improve the sensitivity of the controller and more to the point is it crucial or can you do without it?

And do all games support it or do some games not work without it.

Sorry for all the questions, I don't really know a whole lot about the Wii but want to be able to get as much out of it as I can!

only some (new as it's only out a few months) games use the motion plus. It improves the sensitivity of the wiimote to near 1 to 1 ratio of movement to response. haven't used it myself but believe that it's pretty cool. if you got your new wii with sports resort included you should get at least 1 motion plus attachment (attaches to bottom of wiimote). most games that use motion plus will let you use the game without it also.

    Mario Galaxy
Twilight Princess (although i prefered the gamecube version)
    Metroid Prime Trilogy
    New Super Mario Bros

and for shooters, since its something the Wii is great at:
Either of the Resident Evil Chronicles games, (Darkside is out today, Umbrella is pretty cheap on play.com)
House of the Dead (a load of fun)
    Dead Space Extraction (brilliant)

    Thanks glasso

One more question then I'll leave ye alone.

    Are the games region free?

No, not on the Wii. Pal games for Pal (ie European) consoles, NTSC games for US consoles. You can get a Freeloader disk to launch NTSC games on a PAL console but Nintendo keep fixing the Wii with updates to stop this launching, no idea if it currently works.

You can use alternative methods to get US games to load, but that's for another forum not too far from here :) *looks up*

Motion-Plus : I have two games that use it. How good it is depends on the game you're playing. EA's GrandSlam Tennis is great fun but it seems a little hit and miss. Sometimes it doesn't register your wiimote waggling, sometimes it over-registers (swinging your racquet when you were just positioning your arm for a swing) which can drive you nuts. WiiSports Resort on the otherhand is an almost perfect implimentation of the M+ - sword fighting in particular seems very accurate and is great fun multiplayer, but lethal in a small front room. The last Tiger Woods uses it too and is apparently magic. Overall though I wouldn't be in a rush to pick one up, wait for the next round of games to include support for it, they'll have had more time to refine their control schemes and sensitivity

Sending her a sly hint?? lol.

IMO, mario kart is a must have if you're getting the wii, the sports pack has to be got too.

there's a new Super Mario Brothers game coming out,and Animal Crossing is supposed to go down well with the little kids.

All my nephews seem to like the lego games, like star wars and batman, well at least i think it's batman, so maybe that's an idea for your son.

Will see today what other games the nephew likes, he's 9 so it should be roughly the same target!!

I wouldn't mind, she has a great figure. It's me that needs to shape up!

Actually i think if you buy Wii Sports with the wii, you get the option of getting the extras for a 10er or so?? Dunno if that offer is still going, but you get a nunchuk, baseball bat, golf club and tennis racket with it...

Steering wheel is also a must if you're getting mario kart!

I ended up getting the bundle in smyths for 199 and so i'm currently searching for a second remote and nunchuk, just wondering is a second motion plus required for this remote?

You would need second motion plus if you want to play wii sports resort with 2 players.

If you look on Amazon you will get an official Nunchuk, Remote and motion plus for about 65 euro.
