What if the driver gone past the border while chased by police?

Ok, this is a question :P If someone got chased by the PSNI and they went past to the border of Ireland. Are the PSNI allowed to carry on chasing into the Irish Republic? I thought it would be like the US when the police not allowed to go to another state when they are catching a crimnal. lol :p
