Ive bought a new set of Ksyrium SLs and have been told not to fit rim tape. Right or wrong? Also ive been reading here about "snakebites" when on the subject of punctures. Can u explain please.

Rim tape not required, except possibly around the valve hole.

Snakebites are (AFAIK) caused by the rim pinching the inner tube. The risk of these is reduced by maintaining correct pressures.

no rim tape required at all on Ksyrium SL.

The reason you require rim tape on a normal rim is due to the holes where the spokes are. On wheels without spoke holes on the inner rim you don't need rim tape. I have Mavic R-SYS which are the same deal. IIRC there is a small bit of tape around the valve hole.

how are the spokes connected to the rim? are the nipples just stuck to the rim rather than drilled into it?

The rims are drilled on the side with the spokes, but not drilled on the side with the tube/tyre.
